An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Quality, Risk and Safety (Governance) team for Maternity as a Governance Facilitator.


NUH maternity services care for more than 8000 women and babies per year as a tertiary referral unit for fetal medicine.

Working as part of a team the post holder will take an active role in supporting the Maternity Quality, Risk & Safety team and using your knowledge and experience to find patterns, trends using data analysis in relation to incidents and risk management.

You will be able to use computer software to validate results and conclusions from data and other intelligence systems to make quality improvement recommendations.

You will also support the Maternity Governance Team to promote efficiency in clinical governance performance as well as making a positive contribution to the work of the team.

The post holder must organise their own workload within defined guidelines. Advice is available as necessary.

You will need to be an individual who enjoys collaborative working and is committed to continuous quality improvement and patient safety.

Main duties of the job

You will provide specialist administrative support in relation to the Incident Reporting System (currently Datix) including:

  • Request the set-up of end user accounts according to user roles.
  • Perform routine database administration tasks that upholds the quality of data and functionality of the system.
  • Ensure that the highest standards of confidentiality and data accuracy are maintained.
  • Provide training to new and existing Datix Users to promote good use of the system.
  • Review records to ensure data is consistent with local policy and external reporting requirements.
  • Ensure the National Central Alerting System (CAS) and Internal Risk Alerts are entered, distributed, and monitored accordingly in the system.
  • Undertake analysis of data, and present it in a way that can be understood by colleagues at varying levels, to support local and national safety and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Gather and use data from a variety of sources to report and theme trends with incident and risk management.
  • To work with Corporate Patient Safety analyst team to identify any anomalies to information data.
  • Develop new, and maintain existing support documentation for users, such as user guides and update communications.
  • Ensure all old records are archived and can be located with ease.
  • Actively manage Freedom of Information Requests as well as any Legal Claims which may come through the Maternity QRS team.

  • Experience of working within a Governance or Risk related Role within a Healthcare setting.
