THE DEPARTMENT


The Student Services department works in collaboration with College stakeholders to promote the personal development and success of students, preparing them for life and employment in modern Britain.

The department also works to ensure that students are well supported during their course, through providing access to services, information, advice and guidance that address potential barriers to achievement, enabling equality of opportunity in education.

Support is aimed at helping students to stay focused and achieve the best possible outcomes on their study programme.


JOB PURPOSE


The Student Experience Team Leader will take delegated responsibility for Safeguarding and Child Protection across the College, working under the overall direction of the Student Experience Manager who will establish the relevant service priorities.

The post will work with the Safeguarding Team to ensure that all statutory safeguarding responsibilities are met; that RuTC continues to be a safe place to learn; and that the welfare of students is paramount.

The post will also take responsibility for leading on the welfare support provided to students to develop their resilience, confidence and health so they are able to fully engage with their College experience.

The post is targeted to work with a caseload of students identified as at risk of not achieving on their courses or of leaving the College as a result of potential safeguarding or welfare concerns.

The object of the post is to develop appropriate strategies to promote the engagement and motivation of such students in order to maximise their retention and achievement and participation in College life.


MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Ensure that statutory requirements are met in terms of the identification and recording of safeguarding cases in line with legislation
  • Act as a deputy Designated Member of Staff for Care-Experienced students, promoting the educational achievement of this cohort and leading on initiatives and staff training to ensure positive outcomes; acting as a key point of contact for external agencies and coordinating support.
  • To work co-operatively with other staff in the Student Services area to coordinate and provide support for students who are 'at risk' of not achieving, such as having social and/or emotional difficulties or being at risk of disengaging with education. Using a variety of approaches and skills to engage and establish relationships with young people and to assist their progression.
  • The post will involve close liaison and working co-operatively with staff in curriculum and support areas across the College to provide information and advice to young people according Student Experience Team Leader June 2023 to their needs in order to help them make appropriate and realistic decisions on issues affecting them.
  • To coordinate liaison with external agencies e.g. CAMHS, Social Services, Police, as appropriate.
  • To be a deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (dDSL) and part of the Safeguarding team, taking a decision-making role with regard to referrals to external agencies (e.g. Social Services, Police), providing staff training including Prevent training for cross-college staff, advising staff on individual cases, mentoring new Safeguarding team members and maintaining links with the LSCP (Local Safeguarding Children Partnership).
  • Ensure that any emerging themes, strategies and policies in relation to safeguarding and vulnerable students are shared, supporting the Student Experience Manager in incorporating these into college practice.
  • Monitor and feedback on outcomes for care experience, vulnerable and at risk students to promote inclusive practice.
  • To support the Student Experience Manager in the implementation of the Mental Health Support teams in colleges programme and ensure the promotion of mental health and wellbeing, deputising at related external meetings when required.

£33,534.00-£35,401.00 per year
