Description

The post holder will be responsible for providing specialist clinical skills within the intra-operative field to support the delivery of high-quality patient care within the Ophthalmic Theatre.

The post holder will be committed to providing research and evidence-based practice whilst leading a small multi-professional team. Primarily based in theatre, you will be expected to support other core areas if required.

  • To act as a clinical expert and resource in the perioperative care speciality demonstrating a sound underpinning knowledge base and highly developed clinical skills.
  • To act as a role model professionally and in the delivery of perioperative care.
  • To lead and facilitate the planning, implementation and evaluation of appropriate patient focused care and treatment, in line with agreed perioperative guidelines and protocols.
  • Monitor the practice of all staff, qualified and unqualified to maintain high standards of patient care.
  • To participate as scrub assistant and circulating member of the Theatre Team, demonstrating high clinical standards, maintaining his/her knowledge base thereby acting as a role model to other staff.
  • To implement and influence change in line with developing clinical practice procedures and policies.
  • Ensure that own skills and knowledge are updated in line with professional and national developments and the requirements of the post.
  • Ensure own practice and that of others adheres to Trust Policy, procedures and protocols.
  • Work with the Lead practitioner / Senior Nurse in identifying and resolving issues associated with the health and safety at work act.
  • Identify development needs and draw up a personal development plan for discussion at appraisal and objective setting reviews.
  • Participate in updating trust and departmental policies, procedures and protocols.
