Job description for Quality Assurance Engineer This is a varied role based at Abbey Wood, Bristol, providing Ministry of Defence (MoD) Engineering Quality Assurance support across all domains.


You will have unrivalled opportunities to be involved in some of the most interesting and complex Defence engineering projects being undertaken in the UK today.


The Internal Technical Services-Government Quality Assurance (ITS GQA) practice is an established team that provides GQA assistance to Project Teams charged with delivering specific projects.


Tasked by delivery teams, ITS-GQA practice members typically work across multiple projects at any one-time, providing support to delivery teams as a MOD Quality Assurance Subject Matter Expert.

We are seeking individuals with supplier Quality Assurance or technical experience to join the ITS-GQA practice. Experience of technical or quality assurance of supplier products/service is key to success in this role.


Responsibilities for Quality Assurance Engineer The responsibilities of these posts will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Providing Engineering Quality Assurance support across all domains Land, Air, Sea, and Submarine Delivery Agency.
  • Providing advice, guidance, and support to Delivery Teams on the implementation of quality policy and assuring compliance. Can influence engineering decision making through provision of QA advice and guidance.
  • Involvement in a variety of high profile and technically complex Defence programmes requiring the ability to communicate well at all levels.
  • Setting of QA contractual standards, managing quality aspects of let contracts or undertaking quality assurance activities throughout the acquisition life cycle.
  • Plan for Government Quality Assurance during acquisition.
  • This role requires interaction with both internal and external parties and advising a wider stakeholder community on all aspects of Quality Assurance at all levels. This can include setting quality strategy, identifying risks and advising mitigating planswithin the delivery teams and the supply chain.
  • Auditing such as identifying and managing quality related risks, including product related risk and facilitating investigations of equipment faults.
  • Experience of root cause analysis, internal process performance improvement activities and supplier management.
  • There will be a requirement for short periods of travel to suppliers within the UK or Overseas that may involve overnight stays.

Person specification

  • Experience in Engineering or Quality Assurance
  • Be qualified to HNC Level 4 (or equivalent) in an Engineering or Science related discipline or previous relevant work experience
  • Understanding of ISO9001:2015 or Quality Management Systems
