Stockport Homes Group are looking for a Clerk of Works to support their busy investment team with the delivery of the Capital Investment programme, and other related works.


This role is pivotal in working closely with the Project Leaders and contractors to ensure that work is completed efficiently, safely and to a good standard within our customer's homes.


We are looking for someone who can develop and maintain strong client/contractor relationships, carry out defect surveys and handovers, and attend final inspections to completed works.

You will be required to provide support to Project Leaders on a variety of projects, inspect, monitor, and record the progress as well as carry out defect surveys and handovers and attend final inspections to completed works.


The Clerk of Works will be required to provide the Project Leaders with regular reports and updates of progress of the works as well as attending meetings as and when required.


The Clerk of Works will act as the first point of contact of liaison for customers and assist with both the communication with our customers and the collection of Customer Satisfaction Surveys during handovers as and when required.


Your main responsibilities will be:


  • Working in collaboration with the Project team, contractors, and customers to ensure objectives are achieved.
  • Monitoring works on site, in accordance with contractor's method statements and requirements of the Construction and Design Management regulations 201
  • Check progress is maintained according to the delivery programme, give regular reports and updates highlighting any issues which may cause delay to the works.
  • Provide Project Leaders with regular reports both orally and in writing about any aspect of the works including quality which do not conform to specification or schedule of works.
  • Prepare and attend final inspections and advise Project Leaders prior to the issue of the handover/practical completion certificates.
  • Ensure that all databases are used accurately, upload all information accordingly, and be prepared to undertake any necessary training.

We are looking for someone who is / has:

  • A relevant qualification or equivalent experience within the building industry, trade background, or acquired skills as a Clerks of Works, Building Surveyor or Site Manager on functions such as capital investment projects, maintenance and refurbishment contracts, disabled adaptations, or responsive repairs.
  • Hold a SMSTS qualification or equivalent H&S qualification.
  • A good understanding of H&S legislation, in particular, the requirements under the Construction Design Management regulations 2015 (CDM).
  • Have technical and construction awareness and competence and be able to show a good working knowledge of materials, trades, methods, and legal requirements.
  • Experience in providing a customerfocused service, demonstrating excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience within a constructionrelated environment.
  • Ability to work well under pressure with an exemplary positive attitude and ability to solve problems creatively.
