Job Title:
Senior Policy and Campaigns Officer


Location:
London SE11 and homebased


Hours:
Full time: 35 hours a week


Type of Contract:
Permanent


Salary:
£30,500 to £33,000 per annum (depending on experience)


Reports to:
Head of Policy and Campaigns


Hybrid-working: This role will be a mix of remote and office-based working, with a minimum requirement of being office-based at least two days per week.

The Suzy Lamplugh Trust was born out of the tragic story of Suzy Lamplugh, a 25-year-old estate agent who went missing whilst at work in 1986, was never found, and was eventually declared deceased in 1993.

The Trust was set up in Suzy's name to empower individuals and organisations to make a stand against all forms of abuse, aggression, and violence, across their personal and professional lives.

We are an organisation that has been responsible for the education of millions of lone and frontline workers across all sectors for three and half decades.

We have campaigned heavily and played a pivotal role to drive changes in the law.

We have also responded to over 65,000 calls for support from victims and survivors of stalking since the inception of the National Stalking Helpline service in 2010, with the aim of tackling violence against women and girls at the core of what we do.


PURPOSE OF THE JOB:


To lead on Suzy Lamplugh Trust's policy and campaign work relating to stalking, in order to ensure that victims of stalking continue to have their voices heard and receive effective and appropriate responses and that the Suzy Lamplugh Trust continues to be the expert policy voice in this area.

This role will also lead on the broader harassment and workplace safety policy and campaigns agenda of the Trust. The post holder will work on multiple, diverse and fast-paced projects in a committed and expert team.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Lead the delivery and evaluation of national campaigns on stalking, harassment and workplace safety.
  • Develop policy recommendations, write policy and campaigns reports, lobby government and other decision makers and stakeholders, and respond on behalf of
Suzy Lamplugh Trust to government enquiries, consultations or other relevant initiatives.

  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with civil servants, policy makers, criminal justice professionals, national and local decision makers, and other campaigning bodies and build relevant networks of stakeholders.
  • Proactively keep abreast of issues within the postholder's own portfolio, general criminal justice and violence against women and girls' policy developments and up to date campaigning techniques
  • To undertake or commission research on specific policy areas as required.
  • Deputise for the Head of Policy and Campaigns where required including representation with senior stakeholders and national media.
  • Engage people with experience of stalking in all aspects of work, including input into planning and policy development, participation in research and engagement in campaign actions and events.
  • Present Suzy Lamplugh Trust policies and campaigns through external presentations, publications, articles or briefings for a variety of audiences, and plan, organise, implement, oversee and evaluate campaign events.
  • Represent Suzy Lamplugh Trust externally including at a senior level to multistakeholder meetings with government departments, at national conferences and to the media.
  • Ensure project budgets are monitored effectively, and expenditure is reported back to funders in line with their requirements.
  • Lead on the coordination of the National Stalking Consortium working with Head Of Policy and CEO to drive a strategic agenda across the sector.
  • Lead on the development and delivery of Suzy Lamplugh Trust's annual National Stalking Awareness Week campaign working with key stakeholders across the UK.
  • Keep abreast of academic and research developments in the field of stalking, harassment and workplace safety and build a network of relationships with academic institutions working in these fields.
  • Take part in a rota to respond to reactive press calls out of office hours.
  • Undertake other duties that may from time to time be necessary and are compatible with the nature and grade of the post.
