This is an exciting opportunity for the post-holder to join an innovative and busy Early Phase Research Team, part of the Oncology and Haematology Clinical Trials Service.

The post-holder will be working with our team of Oncology and Haematology Research colleagues including an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Research Nurses, Clinical Research Practitioners alongside our Consultant colleagues.


The post-holder will build on their skills in clerking, assessing and examining patients gained through their physician associate training, present cases to more senior members of the team, initiate and interpret investigations, and recommend appropriate management/treatment for our patients.

The post holder will be expected to liaise with other professionals and specialties as required and complete necessary research documentation relating to their patients.

You will be assigned a dedicated consultant/educational supervisor.

You will be fully integrated within your clinical research team and will have similar opportunities for education and service development as colleagues.


To provide expert assistance to the Consultant and Specialist Trainees in the provision of a high quality, patient centred service.

The post holders are expected to participate in all aspects of the research patient pathway as appropriate and will be expected to perform delegated duties with a high degree of clinical skill and knowledge.

The Physician Associate role works alongside the medical and nursing teams, in the clinical areas managing patients.

There will be a focus on acquiring skills and knowledge in research.

They will be expected to liaise with other professionals and specialities as required and complete necessary documentation relating to their patients.


They will be supervised by a designated consultant and will also have individual educational supervisors to overview their career development.


It is expected that the Physician Associates will become involved in the activities of the Department, including coordinating patients on research trials, reviewing patients attending clinics and providing subsequent management of cases in conjunction with the Medical Team.


The Oncology and Haematology Clinical Trials Team, part of the Haematology, Cellular Pathology & Supporting Services Directorate is an integral part of the Cancer and Surgery Clinical Group.

The Cancer and Surgery Clinical Group brings together a number of Guy's & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust's services that work collaboratively across the hospital and with our partners to provide excellence in clinical care, research and academia.

It operates as a distinct entity with devolved accountability within the Trust. The aim of this Clinical Group is to deliver the GSTT Cancer and Surgery Strategy.
