An exciting opportunity has arisen for a successful individual to join our Older Person's Mental Health Services within Ysbryd Y Coed in Swansea.

The post holder will assist in the promotion of equality for all clients through anti-discriminatory practise, supporting clients' rights, choices, personal beliefs and identity and by supporting clients with challenging behaviour and complex health needs through effective communication.


To work under the direction and supervision of qualified nursing staff in the provision of nursing care to individuals experiencing Mental Health problems throughout the 24 hour period.

As a Health Care Support worker your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering clinical and therapeutic care to patients as required within set protocols/policies and within the scope of the health care support workers remit.
  • Assisting the patient assessment within levels of competence immediately reporting any changes in the patients' physical and mental condition to the registered practitioner/assistant practitioner.
  • Communicating effectively, sensitively and compassionately with colleagues, patients and visitors.
Acting at all times in a manner which illustrates respect for privacy, dignity and confidentiality.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Communicate effectively with patients/carers/relatives and colleagues.

Support the professional in maintaining the patients' standards of personal hygiene.

E.g. dressing, bathing, washing and assisting to use the toilet facilities.

Support the professional in meeting the patients' nutritional needs.

E.g. fluid balance recording and reporting changes to qualified staff.

Support the professional in the observation of a patient. E.g. observing

and reporting changes to qualified staff.

Support the professional in the care of the patients undergoing investigation.

E.g. assisting the Doctor during physical examinations, blood tests.

Assist the professional in meeting the patients' spiritual and religious needs.

Assist the professional in meeting the patients' holistic needs.

Support the professional and patient in individual activity programmes.

Assist the professional in his/her role as health educator/promoter, and acting as role model in encouraging healthy lifestyles.
