JOB PURPOSE:

To provide an expert speech and language therapy resource to CJLDS service-users. Service-users will be those in contact, or having had recent contact, with the criminaljustice system. The post holder will have daily contact with service users, carers, external stakeholders andinternal colleagues.

RESPONSIBILITY:

Able to assess patients with a range of complex needs, including those with mental healthconditions, autistic spectrum conditions and learning difficulties, using both structured andunstructed assessment tools as appropriate.

Able to work effectively with patients with mental health conditions. Identifies and makes timely referrals to other services as necessary.

Able to write reports based on assessment findings, providing appropriate advice andevaluating outcomes.

Able to relate findings back to possible difficulties accessing the criminal justice system,and make recommendations to overcome or minimise these.

To negotiate with others around care pathways and case management. To demonstrate skills in dealing with complex issues to generate strategies for caseloadinitiation, management and discharge.

Contribute to inter-agency team building such as with social services, police, criminaljustice, private and voluntary sectors. Uses specialist knowledge to contribute to service/policy development. Awareness and adherence to service model/plan. Formulation and delivery of training packages relating to specialism for colleagues in theCriminal Justice Liaison & Diversion Team.

Keep up to date with national policies and developments regarding Speech & LanguageTherapy in the criminal justice system, and ensures that changes are reflected in servicedelivery.

Contribute to service performance monitoring. Provide guidance to colleagues around easy read information and accessible information. Provide reflective practice opportunities and advice to colleagues in the Criminal JusticeLiaison & Diversion Service.
