Job description


Salary Scale:
OHS Grade 8, £20,319 pro rata

Hours: 30 hours per week including regular weekends £16,255.20 for 30 hours


Responsible to:
Retail Area Co-ordinator

Retail Area Manager

Job Summary


As Retail Support Assistant the post holder will assist and support the Cluster Manager, Shop Manager, Shop teams and volunteers in all aspects of Retail operations including training, Gift Aid, and promotions in line with the Retail Strategy.


Minimum Qualifications / Experience Required
Study to GCSE Level 3 or equivalent

1 year's minimum experience in Retail

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POST


Work with the Retail Cluster Managers and shop teams to provide support as required in any Overgate shops, to enable Managers to train and support all volunteers and to maximise income.


Work with the Retail Cluster Managers and shop teams to increase Gift Aid within all shops and promote within the local community.

Support the Retail Cluster Managers to promote all the shops using social media and the relevant markets.

Develop key working relationship with all shop Managers and their teams.

Take day to day responsibility on a relief basis of any of the Overgate charity shops within the cluster.

Provide guidance and support to volunteers working within the shops.

Provide cover and support to existing Managers in the effective management and development of the shop as required.

Comply with correct financial procedures at each shop. This will include accurate cashing up, banking, reporting of figures and relevant paperwork as required.


Work in agreement with each Shop Manager to adhere to stock control and rotation procedures, displaying goods in the shop, and maintaining a high overall standard of display and cleanliness.

To work in agreement with the individual Shop Manager when pricing items for each shop.

To handle, sort and process all stock and deliveries and maintain the determined shop floor stock levels.

Assist the Retail Cluster Managers and Shop Manager in encouraging Gift Aid donations.

Ensure the Gift Aid scheme is utilised, and all volunteers understand how it works and are fully trained.

Ensure financial donations are processed and recorded correctly.

Assist the Shop Managers in actively recruiting and inducting new volunteers and correctly train volunteers within their roles.


To support the Retail Team with various tasks and projects on days when relief cover is not needed such as Gift Aid development, volunteer campaigns etc.

Carry out other duties as may reasonably be required.

Assist the Retail Cluster Managers and Shop Managers in developing and implementing ideas for community shop events.


Assist the Shop Managers in representing the shop at local events and ensure the shops are promoted at these events.

Maximise income from donated items including recycling of unsellable items and online opportunities.

Report all issues to the Retail Cluster Managers and work together to resolve them.

Support and assist in stock transfers, eBay, stock appeals and donation days.

Create and continually develop effective relationships with volunteers within the shops and across the organisation.


Customer Service
Ensure that customer service is professional and supports the ethos of the hospice.

Support and advertise hospice events, campaigns, and awareness issues.

Build relationships with customers and the community.

Promote the role of the charity in the community.

Ensure professional and friendly service is given at all times.

Accept all donations politely and professionally.

Promote the use of the Hospice loyalty card scheme.


Other Responsibilities
Report all issues to the Retail Cluster Manager and work together to resolve them.

Support and assist in stock transfers, EBay, stock appeals and donation days.


Be willing to attend all mandatory training and to undertake further education and training as part of professional development to meet the demands of the role.

Work within all legal and Overgate frameworks

To read, understand and comply with all Hospice policies and procedures.

To maintain strict confidentiality in all matters relating to the Hospice, its business, patients, staff, and others

Any other activity as requested by line manager.
