Queen Alexandra College is a national residential College for the assessment, rehabilitation, vocational education and training of students with a range of disabilities including visual impairments.

Its primary aim is to develop the skills of all students to the full, enabling them to live and work as independently as possible in society.

Students at Queen Alexandra College are aged from 16+ many have additional disabilities or learning difficulties. Our student community is recruited nationally and reflects the multi-cultural nature of our society.

QAC Sight Village is described as

_the UK's leading exhibition for blind and partially sighted people and for those experiencing sight problems'._ Each year thousands of people visit our events to find out at first hand the latest technology, products and support services.

QAC Sight Village is part of QAC Enterprises, businesses which raise money for the College whilst offering key services to businesses wanting to connect with people with visual impairment and other disabilities.

The post holder will be responsible to the Director of Community Services and Enterprises

. The work involved will require flexibility and the ability to work accurately under pressure.


Key Responsibilities:


MAIN RESPONSIBLITIES AND DUTIES:

The post holder will be expected to:

  • Lead in the development, planning and delivery of the annual QAC Sight Village face to face and online events taking responsibility for effective organisation and administration including regular customer relationship activities
  • Actively seek new opportunities for income generation including sponsorship
  • Attend all Sight Village events (overnight stay/travel necessary). Coordinate activities on the day and implement back up plans when necessary
  • Research appropriate regions to host future events. Source suitable accessible venues and negotiate favourable terms
  • Produce and distribute high-quality digital and printed marketing content and materials for Sight Village events as appropriate
  • Work with the Marketing team on marketing campaigns, advertising and increase Social Media presence in relation to Sight Village and to develop the Sight Village brand.
  • To lead on the development and maintenance of the Sight Village website and to work with the Director of Community Services and Enterprises to develop the Sight Village online offer.
  • To attend the Enterprise Board on behalf of Sight Village, present reports and contributing to the development of Enterprises Strategy.
  • To work closely with the All Formats manager and Director of Community Services and Enterprises to ensure a coherent QAC Enterprises offer and social media / marketing approach.
  • Produce quarterly online newsletter and seasonal e-catalogue
  • Attend other networking events and identify potential opportunities
  • Maintain communications database of all external contacts held and use this database to pull target lists for correspondence in relation to Sight Village events
  • Provide Management and Sponsors with regular updates
  • Corporate and team responsibilities
  • Adhere to the College's Health and Safety policy.
  • Undertake any necessary training or updating.
  • Participate in the development of equal opportunities, diversity, inclusion and safeguarding within the department and across the College
  • Attend and actively contribute to appropriate team meetings
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties or responsibilities as required by the College

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise:

Education & Qualifications

  • Educated to A Level or equivalent
(Desirable - Degree qualification in relation to Marketing, Communications and/or Event Management)

Relevant work experience and/or knowledge

  • Experience of working in a marketing, communications, events, and relationship management environment
(Desirable - previous experience of working in a charitable setting and/or SEND sector)

  • Experience in planning and delivering events (face to face and virtual)
  • Experience in building relationships with a variety of organisations and/or individuals
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office packages (Desirable
  • Experience in creating and uploading content to websites and social media)
Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to present confidently to a variety of audiences and adapt approach to best meet the needs of the audience
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure sometimes in challenging situations
  • Excellent IT skills
(Desirable - Experience in the use of Photoshop, Illustrator, In-Design and/or Canva)

  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks
  • Ability to work under pressure and flexibility to unexpected requests, prioritise work to meet deadlines, targets and budgets

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills with a friendly and professional app
