A bit about us

The Facilities Management Team provides premises management, health, and safety statutory checks, assists with incident control, financial and procurement administration.

We act as first point of contact for building users. We are a busy team, and each day brings interesting challenges and tasks.


We currently have 2 Vacancies for enthusiastic and motivated Facilities Assistants who are resilient, have excellent technical, administrative and customer service skills and are a natural problem solver to join our small, high profile facilities management team.

We have multiple positions

  • Full time roles based at Bridgwater House. These roles include travel to offices and buildings in Burnham, Bridgwater, Taunton and West Somerset
  • Although we are looking for someone who has experience in a health and safety environment or a similar role, we are seeking people with transferable skills and backgrounds.

Here's what you can expect to be doing

You will be joining a small friendly team of staff supporting over 70 buildings in the East and West of the County, the majority of which are visited weekly.

As a Facilities Assistant your varied duties will include:


  • Weekly Health and Safety Tours, Legionella checks, emergency lighting checks, panic alarm testing, fire alarm testing and evac chair checks, reporting faults and monitoring their completion.
  • Carrying out portering and housekeeping duties, such as moving furniture or tidying areas within offices.
  • Assisting with opening, sorting & scanning mail and ensuring it is delivered for despatch.

A few things about you

  • You'll have experience in a similar role, with basic building maintenance knowledge.
  • You'll be available to work across sites in Taunton, Bridgwater, Shepton Mallet and Yeovil when required.
  • You'll take pride in your work, have great work ethic and want to play your part in creating a welcoming and safe environment.
  • You'll have experience of using Word, Excel and Outlook.

Additional information

Experience in a health and safety environment or premises management role is preferred but not essential as training will be given.


From 1 April 2023 the County and District councils in Somerset will be replaced by a new single unitary authority - Somerset Council.

It's a genuinely exciting time to join us as we work together with the four district councils to deliver the new council for Somerset.

If this role is customer facing you will need to speak fluent English.

The salary for this role is £21,968.
