Description

To be responsible for providing a high standard, fully comprehensive, multi-skilled cardiac investigative service in a professional manner, working to departmental guidelines whilst being accountable for own actions on both Lewisham and Queen Elizabeth sites.

The post holder must have an up to date Immediate Life Support certificate (ILS) and will be required to carry out Independent ECG's and exercise stress tests and teaching.

To independently analyse 24 hour tape ECGs. To perform cardiac investigations on wards especially those with high dependency patients and the critically ill.

With five Cardiology Consultants this busy service has a lot to offer physiologists by way of skill development and exposure to multiple diagnostic and interventional techniques

Our fields of expertise include interventional cardiology, complex device therapy and specialist echocardiography.


Applicants will have a BSc in Clinical Physiology or equivalent and have a wide exposure to a breadth of cardiac investigations.

As a newly qualified physiologist you should be prepared to learn and adapt and will be given the opportunity to explore a particular area of interest within Cardiology Diagnostics We are growing a young and dynamic team and looking to promote and develop physiologist led services across both of our sites

The successful applicant will be capable of providing an excellent level of clinic competence and knowledge.

The post holder should also be highly team focused, a positive role model and possess good communication, organisational and assertiveness skills.


Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust is an Acute Trust with a teaching hospital, which also runs community services in Lewisham.

We have an income of around £500 million.

We serve a population of 600,000 people, employ 6,000 staff and have 855 beds across our two main hospital sites.

The Trust provides NHS services for local people in Lewisham, Greenwich and Bexley.

The Trust comprises two hospitals, University Hospital Lewisham (UHL) and Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), as well as 11 different health centres in Lewisham.

In addition, we provide some services at Queen Mary's Hospital in Sidcup.
UHL is situated in the heart of Lewisham borough.

It is a teaching hospital that obtained university status in 1997 due to the role it played in undergraduate education and research.

QEH, located in Woolwich, provides a broad portfolio of primarily acute services for those living in Greenwich and North Bexley.


To perform:

ECG- Routine and emergency ECG's. Including triage and advice for Junior staff on interpretation of ECGS performed.
Fit Holter monitors, PAMS and ABPM
Independent 24 hour ECG tape analysis and interpretation.
Medically unsupervised stress testing - including medical reporting.


With training and/or supervision:

Pacemaker follow-up, to include Brady and complex devices.
Developing skills of Transthoracic and Transoesophageal echocardiograms - including clinical reporting to BSE standards.
Left heart coronary angiography, including IVUS and Pressure wire studies, including audit.

To ensure criteria for each procedure is correct and to take responsibility for the care of the patient whilst undertaking the procedure.

To assess and adapt technique according to patients condition.( e.g. portable, patients ability to co-operate on understand instructions).
Support junior staff, offering advice and guidance as required

To ensure patient confidentiality is observed at all times and observe the requirements of the data protection act and freedom of information act.

To be able to provide flexible working hours.
