As an FCA regulated business, TransUnion UK is overseen by its Compliance Function operating within the Legal, Risk & Compliance department.


The Compliance Function's second line of defence responsibility is to oversee compliance and to provide assurance to senior management that compliance is being achieved and managed effectively and appropriately.

About the role:


In the role of Head of Compliance, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Compliance Function to ensure that it is supporting, enabling and independently challenging to the business.

The Head of Compliance leads the development, implementation and continual maturity of TransUnion UK's Compliance Monitoring Framework and uses their knowledge of regulatory compliance to contribute information, analysis, and recommendations to strategic thinking and direction.


A key requirement of the role is to assist the Director of Risk & Compliance to develop and maintain effective working relationships with the Financial Conduct Authority and other key external stakeholders.


Day-to-Day you will:


  • Lead the execution and continual improvement of TransUnion UK's Compliance Framework and associated working practices and methodologies regarding business and FCA requirements.
  • Ensure effective compliance monitoring and control processes are implemented by developing, maintaining and delivering an annual Compliance Monitoring Plan, with adequate resource allocation and deployment, to ensure key risk areas throughout the business are covered/considered.
  • Ensure FCA requirements regarding SMCR and Consumer Duty are embedded across the business and regulatory standards are maintained via policies, procedures and key activities and awareness initiatives.
  • Support the Director of Risk & Compliance in providing assurance to the Executive Team and Board, and other relevant stakeholders (including Global Compliance), on the effectiveness of UK compliance activities and operations by creating and submitting a regular Compliance Monitoring Report and other reporting as needed.
  • Deputise for the Director of Risk & Compliance in relation to Data Issue Response (DIR) events.
  • Advise and assist the business to understand the impact of FCA regulation and advising the business as needed to ensure requirements are adopted into approved policies and procedures, and complied with, and considered appropriately in all key business projects and programmes.
  • Work with the Legal Directors and Director of Risk & Compliance to interpret and understand the impact of applicable legislative changes affecting the business.
  • Ensure that the Compliance Function has the right level of internal technical and 'soft skill' expertise to fulfil its obligations, including its role in an advisory capacity and as an escalation point, in respect of FCA Handbook requirements and queries raised by the business.
  • Ensure risks revealed during the completion of Compliance Monitoring Plan activities are reported to the Risk Function in a timely manner and added to the risk register.
  • Monitor and report on service levels with the Compliance Function that reflect its outputs and role in the business.
  • Lead the Compliance Function team and fulfil all required line manager responsibilities.
  • Act as a key contact in the business to ensure groupwide training programmes reflect compliance requirements and ensure employees are aware of their key regulatory responsibilities through monitoring completion of mandatory training.
  • Provide advice to support the successful acquisition and/or integration of new business units which will form part of the TransUnion business and fall within the scope of the Compliance Function.

Required Skills/Qualifications/Experience:


  • Significant previous compliance experience, with an organisation in the Financial Services sector
- experience of leading a Compliance Team or other Assurance team in an FCA-regulated environment focusing on fair consumer outcomes

  • Experience of being the representative of the business, to customers, regulators, and other interested 3rd parties
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with a variety of technical and nontechnical business stakeholders at all levels
  • Effective in communicating verbally and in writing, with consideration to the intended audience
  • Methodical, thorough and diligent, with strong attention to detail and strong documentation and report writing and presentation skills
  • Strong planning, organisational, and time management skills to manage and lead multiple priorities and work to deadlines with multiple deliverables
  • Strong analytical, technical and problemsolving skills and ability to make decisions
  • Passion for keeping up to date with emerging legislation and regulation
  • Passion for leading and driving change within the team and wider
