The Bio-refining and Advanced Materials Research Centre (BAMRC) at SRUC is a new facility that researches innovative synthesis, processing, and manufacturing technologies with net-zero emission for a natural bioeconomy, with a critical focus on disseminating the outcomes into education and public outreach initiatives.


We are seeking a materials scientist to work with SRUC's Biorefining and Advanced Materials Research Centre (BAMRC) to develop next-generation piezoelectric and thermoelectric materials for the EPSRC-funded project.

The year-long research project will primarily focus on the design and synthesis of new functional materials.

Job Duties

  • Carry out experimental work consisting of material synthesis, dielectric, piezoelectric and thermoelectric characterisation and structural analysis.
  • To understand the mechanisms of new piezoelectric and thermoelectric materials through experiments and simulations for coatings and beyond.
  • Synthesizing and characterizing printable inks based on developed nanomaterials.
  • Support and elicit new research questions, with the potential for these to form the basis of a followon funding for a longer piece of work.
  • Support the research and authoring of perspectives and journal articles.
  • Present data at conferences and meetings.
  • General project management organise the project and its reporting requirements.
  • Collaborate with project partners at the University of Manchester; University of Sheffield; LSBU; Swansea University and Queen's University Belfast.
