JOB PURPOSE:
To enhance all residents' quality of life, through the provision of

occupational opportunities.

JOB SUMMARY To organise activities and co-ordinate activities programme and

social events both inside and outside Chiswick Nursing Centre,

in conjunction with the nursing, care and other staff, with the

support and supervision of the Activities Team Lead. To

individualise occupations to meet the physical, social and

emotional needs of residents in order to enhance their quality of

life.


QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:


Essential:
Ability to communicate clearly in spoken and written English, computer skills.

Ability to plan and organise own workload.

Ability to independently initiate contact with residents.

Experience of working with older people with dementia.

Practical and creative skills in arts, crafts, exercise groups, room visits and the physical ability

and stamina to run activities.


Desirable:
Experience with completing PAL assessments.

Experience with animals.

Experience with moving and handling equipment.


RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:


  • To identify the needs of all residents individually through the use of resident profiles and
biographies, and the care plans.


  • To seek the views of residents regarding their preferred activities/social events and needs.
  • To provide occupational opportunities for individual residents, to include a suitable
exercise programme for residents in order to help maintain and improve their functional

abilities.


  • Must be able to work independently for long periods of time and show initiative to knock
on residents' doors to initiate contact.


  • Must be able to independently plan, organise and implement planned activities for small
- medium groups of residents and to liaise with staff to ensure the residents are ready to

participate.

  • Must be able to confidently use a computer to write a detailed description of which
activities the resident was supported with as well and any conversations that occurred

relating to activities of daily living.


  • Must be confident to deliver 1:1 room visits with residents, have good conversational skills
and show empathy and compassion towards individuals with various sensory deficits,

including dementia.


  • To arrange social activities, entertainment and outings.
  • To research appropriate materials/games and other resources for the Centre's activities store
and programme.


  • To establish links with and encourage involvement of the local community in the Centre.
  • To support other care home staff and volunteers allocated to assist in the activity
programme.


  • To ensure that the residents' lifestyle is maintained in accordance with the Chiswick
Nursing Centre Philosophy of Care and Residents Charter.


  • Have an active role with relatives in the activity programme and attend relatives' meetings
as appropriate.


  • To ensure that the Chiswick Nursing Centre Code of Conduct is maintained at all times.
  • To maintain appropriate records of residents' activities, progress needs and requests,
liaising with the Named Nurse regarding entries in the residents Care Plan.


  • To report any changes in residents' condition or ability to the Named Nurse or his/her
deputy.


  • To undertake induction training and to participate in training programmes which may be
required either by Law or Company Standards.


  • To co-operate and develop good relationships with residents, relatives, visitors, staff and
other professionals.


  • To control, maintain the stock of equipment, materials and resources within a given budget.
  • To maintain confidentiality and a professional approach at all times.
  • To maintain a safe living and working environment through observation and
implementation of health and safety regulations in order to meet statutory and local

regulations.


  • To abide by the Company's Quality Procedures and Policies and report/record all non
- conformances in the correct manner.


  • Actively protect service users from any form of abuse, harm or neglect and report any
concerns regarding possible abuse of service users immediately to the person in charge.

  • To report promptly all complaints, as per the Centre's procedure.
  • To comply with the regulations in respect of Health & Safety at Work, COSHH,
environmental health, fire precautions etc and abide by the Company's Health & Safety

Policy.


  • To participate in marketing activities/functions as requested by the Centre Director.
  • To promote the good name of the Company at all times.
  • To attend meetings as requested by the Centre Director and/or Activities Lead.
  • To undertake other duties as may be reasonably requested by the Centre Director and/or
Activities
