Senior Scientist - Organic Process Chemistry

Location - Oxfordshire

Sector - Pharmaceutical

Salary - £32,000 - £40,000


Our client is a leading pharmaceutical CRO based in the heart of Oxfordshire who are offering an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and hard-working Senior Scientist to join their API route scouting and synthetic organic development team.

This positionis open to individuals with significant industry experience in organic synthesis and fresh PhD holders who are highly experienced in organic chemistry, ideally who have previous pharmaceutical process chemistry experience.


The Role
This is a position for individuals who have existing organic chemist, process development or process chemistry experience.

As a Senior Scientist, you will be responsible for developing robust and scalable synthetic routes for small organic molecule APIs.

This will be on the gram to hundreds of gram scale.


Job responsibilities include:

  • Designing and scaling robust multistep synthetic procedures for API development.
  • You will develop these routes whilst thinking about maximising yield, reducing waste, reducing environmental impact, reducing costs by avoiding the use of expensive reagents and reducing risks for large scale synthesis.
  • Helping transfer processes from the lab to pilot plant.
  • Liaising with internal and external customers to ensure projects are moving as expected.
  • Adhering to GMP and internal working standards with correct documentation of work.

The Applicant

Successful applicants will have the following:

  • PhD in Chemistry focused on organic synthesis, either multi-step or organocatalysis / development of reaction schemes (essential)
  • will also consider MSc or BSc holders with 4+ years of industry experience in similar role (essential)
  • An understanding of various reaction types, multistep synthesis and route design (essential)
  • Strong experience of using column chromatography, recrystallisation and other purification techniques (essential)
  • Strong NMR, Mass Spectrometry and other analytical/characterisation tools (essential)
  • Brilliant problem solving skills (essential)
  • Ability to work in a fastpaced environment, whilst understanding the underlying chemistry (essential)
  • Process development experience within batch production (desirable)
  • Knowledge or previous experience working within GMP (desirable)
