We have an exciting opportunity in the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre for someone with a passion for leadership and the delivery of research in digital manufacturing to make an impact on UK productivity.


As the impact of digital technologies in manufacturing increase with ever accelerating pace, the AMRC are looking to recruit personnel to develop business in this field.

The Digital Lead will support the Senior Innovation Fellow and ultimately the Research Director, working across the whole of the AMRC to support technology teams in developing new projects and identifying new opportunities.

Work will be based across the whole AMRC including the Factory of the Future and in the digital flagship facility, Factory 2050.

You will work closely with the Director for Industrial Digitalisation, technology theme leads identifying opportunities for the implementation of 4th Industrial revolution solutions incorporating sensing and data capture, connectivity and data use/visualisation.


  • You will:
  • Experience of implementation of ICT solutions in a manufacturing or other relevant environment.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, report writing skills and experience of delivering presentations and communicating to staff at all levels of an organisation.
  • Ability to communicate on a technical level with customers as well as staff at the AMRC.
  • Ability to communicate with industrialists about potential digital opportunities, understand their requirements and plan strategically.

About the Team

The University of Sheffield AMRC builds on the success of the original Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre with Boeing, creating a cluster of industry-focused manufacturing R&D Centres and supporting facilities.

The Digital Lead will be a member of the AMRC Research Team and will report to the Senior Innovation Fellow.

The Digital Lead will work with the other AMRC group research leads and the AMRC Commercial team, identifying opportunities for the development and implementation of digital solutions.


We support professional registration with approved institutes and are accredited to support developing Engineers via Monitored Progress Development Scheme (MPDS) with IMechE.

The AMRC is also committed to supporting the talent and potential of women in engineering and has been awarded an Athena SWAN Charter - Bronze in recognition of advancing gender equality.
