Background


Are you ready to develop your career and specialism joining our team of specialist financial crime supervisors? We are looking for a Lead Associate to join the Fraud Team at the FCA.

The Fraud team was recently set up to develop the FCAs approach to reviewing firms anti-fraud systems and controls and ensuring that they are taking adequate steps to protect their customers from being victims of fraud and they are not being used by fraudsters.

The team is developing and implementing approaches to supervising what firms are doing to tackle fraud.


This work plays a vital role in minimising the extent to which it is possible for regulated businesses (or businesses which require, but fail to have, FCA authorisation), to be used for a purpose connected with financial crime, partnering with teams across the organisation.

A new team has been set up to focus specifically on supervising firm's antifraud systems and controls.

What does the job involve?

As a Lead Associate within the team you will:

  • Contribute to and lead parts of the design and development of a comprehensive 3-year plan on the FCA supervisory approach to assessing firms' anti-fraud systems and controls, including; understand how to better utilise fraud data and intelligence available from internal/external sources
  • Identify and engage with firms to lead the delivery of agile reviews of their antifraud systems and controls,
  • Critically assessing their antifraud systems and controls, exercising strong judgement and challenging firms, where necessary
  • Undertaking peer comparison and analysis of the maturity of firms' antifraud systems and controls in relation to other firms in the sector and the wider market
  • Utilising learnings to inform and develop our supervisory approach going forward
  • Work closely and effectively with colleagues across the division and other key internal and external stakeholders to provide a joined up approach to antifraud supervision, attending and contributing to meetings with stakeholders, escalating issues where appropriate and leading complex supervision cases focussing on firms antifraud systems and controls.
  • Supporting the Manager to plan, prioritise and allocate work across the team, developing and coaching the team to support their development. Deputising for the Manager during periods of absence
  • Overseeing the work of team members to ensure timely progress is made to achieve our supervisory outcomes

  • Evidence of Regulatory financial crime antifraud experience.
  • Proven experience of building and managing relationships with stakeholders at all levels of an organisation.
  • Experience of analysing data and information, making judgements and presenting key issues and recommendations to senior stakeholders.
  • Proven experience of strategic thinking and decision making. Ability to think critically about the strengths and weaknesses of firms' systems and controls to identify relevant risks, issues and themes and arrive at appropriate judgements.
  • Experience of supporting and mentoring a team or individual/s, assigning work and managing its completion.

  • Strong project management capability to help plan, prioritise and allocate work within the team.
