Description

As a Data Engineer you will provide technical data design development support across software engineering, and to deliver data pipelines, mart and warehouse solutions.


Key responsibilities:


  • Build consensus and champion SQL and NoSQL development practices across the department.
  • Deliver brand new data platforms that teams can consume and develop on. For example, "data and hosting pipeline" for Data Science team and data mart for People First feature teams.
  • Work with the Data Architect, DPO, Chief Architect and Chief Security Officer to ensure data is stored securely and in accordance with the GDPR regulation
  • Assist development teams with data structure and query design
  • Optimise data storage and query performance
  • Work with Software Engineers across the department to identify software development hardships and work to eradicate them.
  • Deliver technically challenging PoCs that push our technology and working practices forward.
  • Provision of timesheet and expense summaries.
  • Participate where required in employee recruitment process.
  • Liaise with customers via the appropriate means in order to fully understand their issues and/or requirements, this may involve occasional visits to customer sites.

Key technical skills:


  • Hands on experience with SQL (including store procedures, views, functions) and NoSQL
  • Hands on experience with ORM and query optimisation
  • Understanding of data architecture theory such as OLTP and OLAP, CAP Theorem, Sharding, Data warehouse, MapReduce
  • Scaling data for midscale distributed cloud systems
  • Hands on experience using at least one of the following programming languages .NET, Python, Java or PowerShell
  • Algorithm design and computational optimisation
  • Data structure design
  • Hands on experience using Azure PaaS .e.g. Data Factory, Databricks, Azure Functions, Logic Apps, Azure SQL
