This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified nurse to train as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse Practitioner Health Visitor in Stockport.

Our Start well Health Visiting team are a dynamic, friendly and supportive team with the Health and Wellbeing of families, babies and children at its core.

We aim through our Start well strategy and Family Hubs programme to deliver the best opportunity for early years development and wellbeing for all under 5s across Stockport including our children with additional needs.


Stockport NHS Foundation Trust is looking to recruit 4 qualified nurses to undertake the new Specialist Community Public Health Nursing Apprenticeship in Health Visiting on a full time basis.

Apprentices will:

Work alongside the Practice supervisor and Practice Assessor to develop enhanced skills in Specialist Public Health Community Nursing.

Complete SCPHN Apprentice course at level 7. Meeting the required Apprenticeship Standards, University Academic Standards and the NMC Standards for qualification.

The apprenticeship programme combines and integrates both academic and work-based learning through close collaboration between employers and education providers.


50% will be on placement and you will be allocated a Practice Assessor and Practice Supervisor to guide and assess your development.

50% will be University time which will include study days and regular academic assessments


The Health Visiting/Start well Service in Stockport works in Community Family Hubs with caseloads across the borough utilising an integrated locality model.

The named Health Visitor model works alongside the Family Hubs strategy within Stockport Family in well established skill mix teams consisting of Specialist Community Public Health Nurses (Health Visitors) Staff Nurses, Early Years Workers and Health Visiting Locality Assistants who together deliver the Healthy Child Programme 0-5 along with colleagues from Stockport Family and the wider health care services in primary and secondary care, voluntary/3 rd sector agencies.

The service is working with colleagues to develop multiagency pathways to ensure delivery of the Healthy Child Programme and support closer service integration.

During the Apprenticeship you be delivering evidence based interventions as per the Healthy Child Programme 0-5.

You will be expected to work on your own initiative as well as under direct supervision of your Practice Assessor and Supervisor.

Stockport Health Visiting service is part of the Women Children's and Diagnostics Business Group of Stockport NHS Foundation Trust, and is integrated with Stockport Council as part of Stockport Family and One Stockport Family Hubs.
