The Role:


The role we have available is a Functional Skills Tutor, supporting a caseload of learners, you will play a crucial role in helping our learners develop skills that will support them in their lives.

You will be working alongside a supportive team to nurture our learners who complete qualifications every week. The purpose of the role is to teach and educate our learners with Maths and English, caseloads will be across our Carlisle and Barrow

  • In
  • Furness Centres. Travel will be expected with this role.
We are looking for experienced tutors to deliver our Functional Skills courses.

The role involves accredited delivery and assessment activities for English and Maths for learners who require support to improve their employability chances or access higher education like College or University.


Additionally, it is required to plan lessons effectively and ensure that activities are differentiated towards individual learner needs Training, coaching and assessment must be effective and to the highest standard to empower the learner to move forward on their journey.


How does it work?

  • Administrative & Strategy_


Maintain learner records accurately and ensure all evidence for all visits is readily available and accessible for audit and quality purposes.

Implement any improvements identified as a result of performance reviews and internal quality assurance.


Develop and maintain own professional and occupational knowledge, skills, and experience, including formal training, CPD and networking with fellow professionals.

Incorporating self-reflection to improve practice.

  • Coaching & Collaborating_


Undertake regular and meaningful reviews with learners to ensure they remain engaged on the program and that they are progressing well relative to their initial starting point.


Plan lessons effectively and ensure that activities are innovative and differentiated towards individual learners and that learner support is effectively assessed, reviewed, implemented and evaluated throughout the learner's journey.


Monitor learner's progression and ensure all forms of teaching, learning and assessment for each element of the qualification is completed enabling learners to meet the criteria for achievement of the chosen qualification.


Train, assess, motivate, mentor and support learners, assisting them to develop personal and social skills to better prepare them for work, progression, and life.

Take part in Standardisation and team meetings and undertake continuing professional development as required.

Deliver outstanding teaching, learning, and assessment to learners.

  • Training & Compliance_


Promote, and deliver training in accordance with qualification and centre guidelines, including the promotion of equality and diversity and Prevent in lessons.


Adhere to all statutory responsibilities and ensure Health and Safety, Safeguarding and Prevent policies and procedures are followed at all times.

Maintain high standards of quality and compliance and complete all contractual paperwork and documentation as required.


The Person Specification:

Assessor Qualification (A1, D32/33, TAQA, CAVA) or willingness to work towards

Functional Skills Level 2 in Math's, English and ICT

Experience of using an e-portfolio system

Experience of delivering vocational qualifications successfully using remote and digital platforms

Recognised teaching qualification e.g. PGCE, PTLLS or equivalent

GCSE English Language or equivalent (Grade A*-C)

Level 3 award assessing, vocationally related achievement or equivalent


Additional Information:

Full Time: 37.5 hours a week
