We have an exciting opportunity within our fast paced and innovate R&D department for an Associate Principal Scientist to join the team in Slough.

You will be working closely with Upstream Scientists, Bioinformatics and Technical Directors, supporting complex experimental studies. This role would deliver multivariate data analysis, deep learning, reinforcement learning and other novel machine learning (ML) techniques for process modelling of next generation integrated continuous biomanufacturing, meeting industry demands and maintain Lonza as the lead supplier


Key responsibilities:


  • Develops and refine various bioprocesses models using ML tools
  • Develop soft sensor and feedback control loops for bioreactors
  • Working closely with the upstream scientists, bioinformatics or technical directors to support complex experimental studies.
  • Reviews experimental results and respective scientific documentation
  • Helps with ensuring lab procedures are adhered to and supports safety assessments.
  • Plan and coordinate all modelling work across various R&D upstream projects in PS&T team.
  • Mentoring and coaching of other individuals within the team
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Key requirements:


  • MSc / PhD in a relevant scientific field (Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Bioengineering)
  • Experience with coding in Python or R (SIMCA software desirable)
  • Strong statistical background
  • Broad and detailed technology competence in Bioreactors
  • Demonstrated innovative skills and experience with leading complex technology projects.
  • High level of communication and presentation skills
