Are you a midwife looking for an opportunity to join a well-established and supportive community midwifery team?

Then consider joining the community team at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospital.


We have vacancies for two experienced midwives who enjoy working as part of a team and are keen to grow and develop professionally.

Flexible working is considered and can be discussed at the time of interview.

If you enjoy managing your own time and caseload, providing holistic women centred antenatal and postnatal care, supporting parents with newborn care, working within a large team, an excellent communicator and compassionate, then this role might just be for you


The main duties of the role will be to:

Plan and provide individualised care based on careful history taking, medical and social assessment as early in pregnancy as possible.

Promote and maintain standards of professional practice in order to enhance quality of care for clients.

Work within the agreed guidelines, policies and practices and participate in the review of guidelines and practice.

Be accountable for maintaining a safe and responsible approach to own sphere of practice.


Ensure good communication with appropriate team professionals/agencies/clients using discretion and maintaining confidentiality and a level of continuity and quality of care.

To maintain legible and contemporaneous records at all times, reflecting the management of care.

Communicate information effectively with clients to assist them in making informed choice regarding maternity care.

Ensure that midwifery practice is current, and research based.


There has never been a more exciting time to join West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Major redevelopment works are planned as part of the New Hospital Programme.

These will be most dramatic at Watford General Hospital where up to 90% of buildings will be new.

This will be to:

Maintain a high standard of midwifery care based on evidence-based practice

Give clinical guidance to other professional as required

Be prepared to undertake cannulation and administer IV medication

Promote breastfeeding in line with the Unicef Baby Friendly initiative

Keep up to date with changes and developments in midwifery care and co-operate in any research projects applicable to the maternity unit

Be confident and competent in all areas of midwifery, therefore able to carry out total midwifery care during the whole period of confinement
