Senior Systems Developer - London, United Kingdom - Claranet Limited

About The Role
Group Configuration Management Systems, part of the Claranet Group Engineering, area, focuses on network automation, provisioning, and reporting systems along with systems integration as necessary.
The role involves development and enhancement of these systemsand interaction and co-operation with infrastructure and support teams who are the suppliers and customers of these systems, providing ongoing support.
The role is not limited to a geography and can be undertaken from either Claranet offices, or remotely, in countries where Claranet have presence.
Out of hours work (relative to the European timezones) may be required, in addition to participation in anon-call rota for escalations regarding our software.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with our networks, implementation and architecture teams, along with other key stakeholders to design and implement new features
- Help our infrastructure teams build and maintain high availability infrastructure to support the team's software
- Provide solid technical understanding of our codebase working alongside skilled peers
- Build and maintain our network automation system and surrounding services
- Work with network device APIs and user interfaces
- Understand and improve our network data model
- Participate in code reviews
- Contribute to improve and develop standards and best practice
- Participate in an oncall rotation for our software
- Act as escalation point for junior members of the team
About You
Position specifications
Mandatory
- Strong knowledge of one of the following languages: Java, C++ or Perl
- Good knowledge of Python
- Ability to learn new programming languages and technologies as necessary
- Ability to produce reliable and well tested code
- Knowledgeable with SQL databases
- Strong systems and software engineering skills
- Good knowledge of computer networking technologies (TCP, IPv4/IPv6, HTTP, DNS, etc.)
- Indepth knowledge of Linux and experience with virtualisation and containerisation technologies
- Version control, CI/CD pipelines
- Excellent troubleshooting and debugging skills
- Attention to detail
- Ability to share knowledge and ideas as well as listening to other's opinions
- Be fluent in English with good written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with Service Provider networking (IS-IS, BGP, MPLS)
- Experience with Data Centre networking (L2, VXLAN)
- Experience working with distributed modern infrastructure (Docker / Kubernetes)
- Experience with Google Web Toolkit (GWT)
- Ability to mentor the junior developers in our team
