Description

Posts are offered for:

Sussex Ward (17 bed male acute ward)

Suffolk Ward (17 bed female acute ward)

Dorset Ward (14 bed mixed ward)

Devon Ward (12 bed male PICU)

We are recruiting four Physician Associates for our Acute In-Patient Service at Chase Farm Hospital, one to work on each of our 3 acute wards (Suffolk - 17-bed female, Sussex - 17-bed make, Dorset - 14 bed mixed) and on Devon Ward, our 12-bed male PICU.

The roles will form an integral part of our ward multidisciplinary teams, working alongside and providing support to our medical teams (which consist of consultant, ST- grade and CT-grade doctors) and ensuring high quality care for patients being managed in our services.

North London Mental Health Partnership is in the process of implementing our new clinical strategy which includes work focused on improving our inpatient pathway, to provide safe, focused and therapeutic admissions close to home and with excellent links to a wide range of community services.

The roles are suitable for qualified physician associates with an interest in managing patients with a range of acute mental health difficulties, who require care in an inpatient setting.

The post holder would be joining a friendly, skilled and dynamic team caring for patients with a range of mental disorders (primarily psychotic and severe mood disorders but with a range of other conditions and comorbidities as part of the case mix).

The post-holder will work very closely with the ward medical team in providing clinical care for patients in the ward.

The model of care involves the consultant and MDT doing a clinical review within one working day of admission to generate a comprehensive care plan which is finalized with other stakeholders including family and community teams at a formulation meeting within 72 hours (this may be in addition to, or within the first senior review).

The medical team, including the Physician's Associate are responsible for the day-to-day mental and physical heath care of ward patients.

Each patient will have a full MDT clinical review ('ward round') at least weekly.

Each post would be based full time on one of the wards, but there would also be an expectation that PAs and junior doctors offer support to other wards when possible or when required (for example if staff on other wards are on leave or there is particularly high acuity or need on other wards in the unit).

If you are keen to learn and develop your role as a Physician Associate we would love to hear from you.

You will be acting within your professional boundaries and the posts are in addition to, rather than replacing, posts in our medical establishment.

You will be providing care for patients from initial history taking, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of their care under the supervision of a Consultant Psychiatrist.

You will demonstrate safe, clinical decision-making and competent care for in-patients. You will work with the multi-disciplinary in-patient mental health team to provide evidence based and holistic care.

You will join the other PAs we already have working in the partnership and we seek to create a dynamic peer group within the organization and foster good links to PAs working in other organizations in the wider North Central London ICS area.

We will provide a supportive learning environment.

We appreciate that many PAs do not have extensive experience in mental health so we will provide on-the-job support and training.

Mentorship and supervision will be provided by designated senior medical personnel, such as Consultant Psychiatrists. You will follow recommended annual appraisals and continuing professional development set out by the Faculty of Physician Associates (FPA).

Contribution to daily morning MDT meetings at which tasks are allocated amongst team members.

Attendance at, and contribution to, ward rounds at which patients are assessed and care is planned.

Clerking patients, including taking a psychiatric history, mental state examination and physical examination.
