Kaplan International College London (KICL): U18s Wellbeing Coordinator (Live-In)

  • Hours of work up to 12 hours per week (plus 'on call' duties)
  • Salary £597.50 gross per month (£11.95/hour)
  • The role will run through the academic year
    04/09/2 31/08/24:
  • Benefits: reduced rate accommodation (studio apartment/self catering) within central London managed residence
  • Place of Work: mainly onsite at the residence. Occasional visits to the college (KICL)
  • Holiday entitlement: Pro rata annual 28 days (inclusive Bank Holiday)
  • Reports to Head of College Services and KIC London Senior College Services Administrator under 18s coordinator.
  • Works closely with Student Services team and at KIC London and Residence staff.

Summary


Kaplan International College London has a designated residence (managed by a 3rd party) where all Under 18s who request college accommodation are placed.

We are looking for a U18s Wellbeing Coordinator to live within our student accommodation and become an integral part of the daily lives of our students living at the residence.


The post would ideally suit a postgraduate student looking to subsidise your living costs whilst providing pastoral care to younger students.


Your working pattern will require being on duty to assist students for up to 12 hours a week and to be on call every other week.


As the KICL U18s Wellbeing Coordinator, your presence will contribute significantly to ensuring that our students feel safe, comfortable and part of the residential community.

Our safeguarding policy specifically recognises the increased level of vulnerability that arises when students are far from home, away from their normal support network and in an unfamiliar culture.

You will play a critical role in our duty of care and support for students under the age of 18.

To do this effectively, you will need to gain a strong understanding of the framework of our Safeguarding Policy so that you can work within it to provide the appropriate support.


Responsibilities
Develop strong knowledge of and follow appropriate guidelines and protocols in all areas of your role

  • Promote good resident welfare and ensure compliance with Kaplan UK Pathways Student Code of Conduct and the Residence Behaviour policies
  • Along with the College team, responsibility for the Safeguarding and duty of care for U18 students who are staying in Kaplan residential accommodation
  • Work with college and residence staff to create a welcoming, safe and friendly environment for our students

Duties

  • Participate and complete all necessary training during the first weeks of employment and ongoing training as required
  • Lead on the U18 students welcome and induction programme assisting students to settle and integrate into the residence, the environment and location in the first days and weeks of arriving in the UK, offering support and guidance as needed throughout their stay.
  • Be a contributing member of local Kaplan International Pathways Safeguarding Panel.
  • Undertake welfare checks on students as needed.
  • Be 'on call' so can respond to any emergencies with under 18 students (alternate weeks Mon-Sun) This requires a commitment to being available from 7pm when onduty and to being onsite from 10pm7am.
  • Provide practical assistance to U18 students requiring support, including registering with a GP and setting up of medical appointments if requested.
  • Run a weekly social event in the residence/local area for KICL students staying at the residence.
  • Set up a weekly drop in 'helpdesk' for KICL students at the residence.
  • Communicate with parents or guardians of students living at the residence as required.
  • Ensure that any welfare, child safety, medical, pastoral issues are immediately reported to your line manager or escalated to a senior manager as appropriate.
  • Assist as required in the administration of the residence including room inspections, student arrivals, departures and room inventories, maintain any necessary U18 records.
