The postholder will provide professional leadership to all the team within the maternity and neonatal service and in conjunction with the Associate Director of Midwifery will develop the clinical leadership across the service.


We are seeking an exceptional Deputy Head of Midwifery to work within a multidisciplinary team to lead at an exciting time of transformation.

The service provides high quality, evidence-based care to around 3,200 women and babies per year. You will have midwifery experience across all areas of the service. You will be responsible for ensuring the Midwifery workforce has the skills and capabilities to deliver this exciting agenda.


The postholder will take a lead in local projects to promote and develop midwifery and will be responsible for leading on the quality of patient care working closely with the Associate Director of Midwifery.

To support the Associate Director of Midwifery to professional leadership responsibility for all midwifery, nursing, support workers and administrative staff within the maternity service.

Ensure the delivery of a safe clinically effective and high quality
midwifery and neonatal services.

Ensure that the maternity service leads develop and implement the Trust Wide Values

Ensure the A-EQUIP model is well established and effective.

Responsible for championing women and families and delivering a comprehensive family centred service that reflects national and local policy/needs.


Deputise for the Associate Director of Midwifery, supporting the Associate Director of Midwifery with internal and external affairs and acting independently when necessary to achieve critical results.

The post holder will support the Associate Director of Midwifery to development and implementation of the strategic vision, and service quality for the maternity service ensuring a client centred culture and excellent standards of care and practice.

The post holder will work closely with the Associate Director of Operations (ADO), Associate Medical Director (AMD), and Nursing and Midwifery teams to ensure the delivery of high quality, cost effective, compassionate care to women and their families in accordance with the requirement of the Trust and its commissioners.

This will include the planning and organisation of a broad range of complex activities and strategies in order to achieve agreed performance standards and service targets, budgetary and staff management and the establishment of effective information and communication systems to support the service and demonstrate excellent clinical outcomes and patient experience.

Provide visible positive and inspirational leadership across the Trust, which engages and motivates staff to ensure the advancement of midwifery practice and the delivery of safe, effective and compassionate care


In conjunction with the Associate Director of Midwifery, Lead Nurse and Named Midwife for Children's Safeguarding ensure that all staff working within maternity services follow the multi-agency framework for safeguarding and ensure all staff working within the maternity service are trained to appropriate standards.

Work in partnership with the Associate Director of Midwifery, Associate Director of Operations, Director of Nursing and other senior professionals to ensure
