We are currently looking for a Desktop Support Engineer to join a leading international scientific organisation based in the West Sussex area.

As the Desktop Support Engineer you will join a global IT Support Services department providing around the sunsupport however this role will focus on just the West Sussex site.

The role of the Deskside Support Engineer is a technical role that ensures the continued operation of desktop or laptop equipment and associated peripherals for both local and remote staff.

The role covers all aspects of the sites Hardware, Software and Applications. Additionally, the role has an understanding of Manufacturing, Distribution and Warehouse IT systems. These duties are carried out in accordance with prescribed tools and processes.

The team field all IT enquiries, resolving as man incidents as possible or escalate to higher line or specialist teams if needed.


The key duties and responsibilities are:

  • You will be part of a team defining IT solutions when required within defined SLA's. Monitoring the service management Tool and updating as incidents are progressed or resolved. Actively seek out complex incidents for quicker resolution.
  • As part of the role you will also help plan, coordinate and carry out hardware installation, moves, adds and changes. Assisting software installation using software deployment tools and investigation of failed installations to resolution.
  • The organisation are looking to focus on hiring a strong communicator with a good appreciation of good customer service. In addition ensuring you can create and maintains documented standard processes and procedures for all aspects of Desktop Support includingreviewing and maintaining the Knowledge Base articles. Adhering to IT policies and procedures, including those for security, Data centre standards, desktop standards, purchasing, and service provision. Make recommendations where gaps are perceived.
  • Relevant degree in a Computer Science, IT, Scientific or other related fields.
  • ITIL qualification at Foundation Certificate would be essential.
  • A working knowledge and practical experience with Microsoft Office 365, Windows 10 and Active Directory.
