Description

Second Step is a leading mental health charity in the South-West offering housing, support and hope to thousands of people with mental health and other problems. Our goal is to inspire hope and deliver change for everybody and every community we work with.

This role will particularly suit applicants looking for flexibility, enjoy variety and are happy to work varying shift patterns.


The Safe Haven supports individuals with mental health difficulties offering short term support to find solutions and the right techniques to bring them back to their baseline.


Some of the techniques we use are**:

  • Active Listening
  • Signposting to other services
  • Selfsoothing techniques
  • Sleep hygiene
  • Referrals to other agencies where appropriate

The aim of the service is to provide short term support, working in a recovery orientated way to empower the client. Second Step believes in the power of promoting independence and holding hope for the client at a time when the client is unable to do so themself.


You will have a minimum of 2 years' experience of working in a Mental Health Support role and be keen to widen your experience, working with service users with a range of support needs including mental health, homelessness, and/or substance misuse.

You will work with a trauma and psychologically informed approach.

Second Step offers an extensive training programme regarding mental health crisis, safeguarding and recovery orientated practice.
