When it comes to building surveying, you may or may not have got to where you are today via the traditional route.

What you do have is relevant qualifications, experience of working with Grade 1; 2* and 2 listed buildings and a real desire to be part of the largest building restoration project ever undertaken in the UK.

A truly unique building, the Palace of Westminster - a world famous icon of democracy - needs essential restoration and renewal to preserve it for future generations.

Covering 34 acres, and the size of more than 1,000 houses, there are 1,100 rooms, 100 staircases, three miles of passageways, four floors and 65 different levels.

We're currently carrying out thousands of hours of complex building surveys and investigations in order to inform future decision making on the work that's needed.

We've already engaged teams of architects, engineers, project managers and contractors who will shape the future direction of the work.

We're now looking for a
Building Surveyor with an interest/background in historic buildings/heritage to be part of our structure for success.

This wide ranging and unique building surveying role will involve assessing proposals, providing technical assurance, reviewing scopes for current and future surveys, advising on the extent of each scope and much more besides.

It will see you work closely with the Delivery Authority Survey team to ensure there is effective briefing and management of contractors in order to drive consistent quality and timely delivery of the various workstreams.

We'll also rely on you to help ensure that there's a clear strategy in place for each survey and its interface with the historic Grade 1 listed building, whilst aligning with the NEC 4 Scope of requirements.

Put simply, you won't be short of challenges to rise to.

A great opportunity to prove yourself in a truly unique environment, because this no ordinary building surveyor role, we're willing to consider individuals who perhaps haven't taken the regular route to building surveying.

That said, you'll ideally have an academic qualification, with an accredited degree at either bachelor and/or postgraduate degrees in building surveying or architectural technology.

Alternatively, you may have qualified directly through a vocational route with a relevant Institute, e.g., have gained chartered status through RICS.

We may even consider a Chartered Architectural Technician with sufficient building surveying experience.

Salary circa £60,000
