  • Whilst performing a Pest Technician role you will also be working on this enhanced role which will make you a regional expert in identification and treatment of agreed species including fox, rabbit, mole, squirrel and Canada geese with progression to deer, Avian Flu and Bovine TB carriers.
  • When wildlife opportunities are sold, you will work outside of your regular district as part of a larger regional team with the DM of the area, Specialist Wildlife Surveyor, other wildlife service specialists and our wildlife technical manager to provide our clients with a unique national solution to their wildlife issues.
  • Full training will be provided to progress you through the three levels of wildlife competencies, led by the Wildlife technical manager to learn all aspects of the role. Training will be practical on the job training, classroom, firearms and H&S assessments. You will be supported in the field by experts in wildlife management to understand the options under the hierarchy of control (beginning with nonlethal) to help you build knowledge and experience while carrying out the work you have been trained for.

As an enhanced wildlife Service Specialist, you will be trained in the theory and practical aspects of:

  • Safe use of firearms
  • air rifle and shotgun (must have Firearms certificate)
  • Humane dispatch
  • Species identification
  • Habitat assessment
  • Habitat modification
  • Trapping methods
  • Shooting
  • Proofing and fencing methods
  • Assessing and writing detailed RAMs using prewritten templates

Expectations of you

  • Full commitment to the training programme
  • Being flexible some works will require unsocial hours
  • Being a regional role, travel will be required to cover a much larger geography
