Accessibility & Inclusion Officer (part-time, 12-month FTC)
Lothian Buses is looking for an Accessibility & Inclusion Officer on a 12-month fixed term contract. This is a part-time role (30 hours per week) based across our Edinburgh premises.


Our Accessibility & Inclusion Officer play a critical role to assess, develop and enhance the accessibility for all our customers who use our fleet and services.

You'll be responsible for ensuring the Lothian Group complies with relevant legislation and best practice, as we strive to enhance the customer experience.


You will:


  • Have knowledge and experience of working with disabled people and the challenges that using public transport can present (lived experience is not essential but would be beneficial)
  • Have knowledge and understanding of the social model of disability
  • Maintain an uptodate knowledge of Public Service Vehicle Accessibility Requirements, Website Communication Accessibility Guidelines, Equality Act 2010 and any other relevant Equality and Diversity policies
  • Be responsible for ensuring the practices of Lothian Buses follow legal requirements by translating equality legislation and Public Service Vehicle Accessibility Requirements in to practice
  • Provide advice and guidance on accessibility and inclusion issues to managers across all departments
  • Actively promote Lothian's commitment to accessibility and inclusion within the business and the wider community
  • Work externally with key stakeholders to discuss and assist with accessibility and inclusion concerns
  • Work directly with customers to support them in using bus services, including 1:1 Supported Journeys and Try a Bus events for organisations in their local communities
  • Support Customer Services and where required, respond to complaints and provide further information on options for complainants;
  • Present reports and recommendations for the improvement of accessibility and inclusion both internally and externally
  • Assist our communications team in ensuring our digital assets are compliant with WCAG 2.2 AA guidelines
  • Report to the Communications Manager on a regular basis
  • Provide regular updates for the Board Summary
