Job Title:
Part -time 1:1 Personal Learning Support Assistant


Hours:
Term time only plus 1 week for INSET training
(initially temporary for one year)
Variable - initially 15hrs per week (but flexibility considered)


Salary:
Depending on experience

Band A point 1- point 17 (£19,507 - £20,876) pro rata
Band C point 2- point 25 (23, ,433) pro rata

Main Purpose of Job:


  • To assist teachers in providing a learning environment that enables all children to access the curriculum and learn to the best of their ability
  • To work with and support an identified child with specified academic, physical and emotional/behavioural/medical needs on an individual basis

General:


  • Support the development and review of personal plans and monitoring systems
  • Undertake continuous professional development
  • Willingness to complete additional training where deemed beneficial to the support role
  • Knowledge of SEND Code of Practice (2015), Disability Discrimination Act and Equality Act (2010)
  • Liaise with the pupil to help them to work in an appropriate way. This might include support with planning and organising time and workload or prompting pupils regarding appointments or activities which require attention
  • Maintain open and regular communication with the pupil's Form Tutor and
SENDCo as appropriate

  • Communicate with teaching staff if necessary, paying close attention to confidentiality requirements
  • Gradually reduce and withdraw support as the pupil becomes increasingly integrated whilst keeping lines of communication open
  • To engage in relevant training appropriate to the role and attend supervision/team meetings where relevant
  • Maintain accurate records of support and ensure pupil verification of contact hour
  • Support pupils in developing effective self care
  • Supervise pupils using shower and toilet facilities as appropriate to the individual's needs
  • Provide some direct personal care in respect of mobility, self care and medication
  • Provide support during key periods of transition. This might include accompanying the pupil between key venues, supporting pupils with navigation or sourcing information on the pupil's behalf if the busy environment might be overwhelming for them

ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:


  • Responsible to the Head of Learning Support (SENDCO) but works to and with a qualified teacher on a day to day basis
  • Liaise with teachers, other support staff, health and education specialists, parents, visitors and volunteers

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES OR ACTIVITIES

Support for Pupils

  • Use curricular/learning skills and experience to support pupils and assisting with the development and implementation of personal plans
  • Establish productive working relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and setting high expectations while encouraging pupils to interact and work cooperatively with others
  • Support pupils constantly whilst recognising and responding to their individual needs and at the same time promote the inclusion of all pupils
  • Employ strategies to recognise and reward achievement of selfreliance, providing feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement

Support for the Teacher:


  • Work with the teacher in lesson planning, evaluating and adjusting lessons/work plans as appropriate, and establishing an appropriate learning environment
  • Monitor and evaluate pupils' responses to learning activities through observation and planned recording of achievement against predetermined learning objectives and provide objective and accurate feedback and reports as required, to the teacher on pupil achievement, progress and other matters, ensuring the availability of appropriate evidence
  • Be responsible for keeping and updating records as agreed with the teacher, contributing to reviews of systems/records as requested and undertaking marking of pupils' work and accurately recording achievement/progress. Administer and assess routine tests and invigilate exams/tests
  • Promote positive values, attitudes and good pupil behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with established policy and encourage pupils to take responsibility for their own behaviour
  • Liaise sensitively and effectively with parents/carers as agreed with the teacher within your role/responsibility and participate in feedback sessions/meetings with parents with, or as directed
  • Provide general clerical/admin support e.g. administer coursework, produce worksheets for agreed activities etc
  • Provide information for parents evenings

Support for the Curriculum:


  • Implement agreed learning activities/teaching programmes, adjusting activities according to pupil responses/needs including the literacy and numeracy programmes, making effective use of opportunities provided by other learning activities to support the development of literacy and numeracy skills
