Job summary:

The role will involve performing unsupervised work including activities that may be demanding and/ or non-routine.

The jobholder will be responsible for testing maintenance and fault finding on all electrical engineering plant, equipment and services including but not limited to :

Electrical distribution, Lighting Installations, Fire Detection and suppression systems, Water pumping and pressure boosting, Ventilation and air conditioning, Medical Vacuum and compressed air plants, Standby generator installations, Nurse call systems, Security systems, UPS systems, CCTV systems, Data and communication systems and Pneumatic Post Tube system.


Main duties, tasks & skills required:
To undertake all work activities as requested by the Electrical Supervisor/Team leader. To work in accordance with Trust safety rules and procedures at all times.

To actively participate in the operation and control of engineering PPMs.

To liaise with the Electrical Supervisor regarding plant failures, or deviations to regulations.

At all times when on duty or on call, to carry Trust communication devices.


Undertake fault finding on complex electrical distribution, lighting, fire detection, air conditioning, standby generator, nurse call, security, UPS, CCTV, data, communications or other critical systems and equipment.

Using cause and effect analysis and detailed examination to gain a solution.

Interprets and follows detailed electrical circuit drawings and specifications for a range of building services.


Acts as 'Competent Person' within the meaning of HTM06- 02 when carrying out maintenance duties on Low Voltage Systems and reports directly to the 'Authorised Person' when performing such duties.

Uses all relevant diagnostic, and hand tools within safety guidelines as necessary for the completion of works.

Provide training, technical advice and support to maintenance assistants.

Ensure that all accidents, incidents, near misses are reported to a manager in accordance with Trust policy.


Observe all fire precautions, undertake fire training as laid down in the Trust's standing orders and attend Fire Lectures at least once a year.

Qualifications:


Essential:


  • Basic education to GCSE/ O Level in Maths and English or postSecondary Training Education in a relevant filed
  • Course 232 in Electrical and Electronic Craft Studies, part OR
  • Course 236 in Electrical Installation Works, Part OR
  • An equivalent qualification such as NVQ Level 3 in a relevant electrical Engineering or Building services Engineering discipline. OR
  • BTEC/ONC in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
  • BS th Edition Wiring Regulations

Desirable:


  • Confined spaces working.
  • IPAF Working at height.
  • Training and experience in the lift release of entrapped passengers.
  • 2391 Inspection & testing

Experience:


Essential:


  • Completion of a registered apprenticeship or structured training program in Electrical Engineering for a minimum of 3 years
  • At least 2 years post training, site experience having demonstrated high versatility and flexibility.
  • Background in Electrical Engineering, equipment or Building services installation, alteration, maintenance, or fault finding.
  • Adaptable to change.
  • Capable working to deadlines

Desirable:


  • Previous experience of working in an acute Hospital environment or similar demanding role.
