The responsibilities for the Department for Science, Innovation & Technology for 2023 are as follows:

For 2023, our priorities are:

  • Optimise public R&D investment to support areas of relative UK strength and increase the level of private R&D to make our economy the most innovative in the world.
  • Promote a diverse research and innovation system that connects discovery to new companies, growth and jobs including by delivering worldclass physical and digital infrastructure (such as gigabit broadband), making the UK the best place to start and grow a technology business and developing and attracting top talent.
  • Put our public services including the NHS and schools at the forefront of innovation, championing new ways of working and the development of inhouse STEM capability to improve outcomes for people.
  • Strengthen international collaboration on science and technology in line with the Integrated Review, and ensure our researchers are able to continue to work with leading scientists in Europe and around the world.

Job description:


This role is based in the PMO and Outcomes team working on globally important Research and Development within the exciting Future Network Programmes team.

You will get to work across the entire Portfolio, seeing and supporting our telecoms projects' cutting edge findings and impacts as they emerge.


You will work with projects to harvest their findings across a range of telecoms research and development activities and communicate these to enable policy teams and the wider telecoms ecosystem to act on them.

By doing this you will play a key part in maximising the benefits of our Programmes, including the Open Networks program, which has a budget of £250m.

Findings cover all elements of the project, covering project management, technical development, commercial and regulatory.

Engage with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to record programme evidence and outcomes.

Supporting creation and dissemination of insights, lessons and knowledge across stakeholder groups.

Communicate lessons to appropriate parts of the team, ensuring lessons are effectively used.

Supporting projects in executing their responsibilities in relation to capturing and dissemination of lessons learned, and benefit realisation.

Managing and maintaining the lessons learned log, and benefits trackers for FNP.

Supporting analysis of programme performance for reporting to governance groups.

Contributing to monthly and quarterly reporting on benefit realisation, lessons learned and project performance.

Identify opportunities for process improvement and proactively engage with the team to implement.


Person specification:


Essential Criteria

  • Strong IT skills including using Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel to manage and present data.
  • Collaborating with and influencing people, within and outside your organisation, to progress work.
  • Confident writing skill
