An opportunity is available for an Estimator to join a major North East Scotland construction firm that has been delivering construction services throughout the UK over the last thirty years.

They are a diverse company delivering a wide range of services; concrete,civils, main contracting and design and build. success is due to the professional attitude, teamwork and commitment of our staff.
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB - Summary of the main reason why this job exists.
To provide estimating expertise and leadership to compile a compliant tender bid.

Work with operational teams to establish programme and prelim elements as well as agreeing early win strategies to enhance our win rate.

Your primary function will include engaging new and existing supply chain members to ensure we establish best market quotations and to cost up our own internal elements through first principal estimating as well as reviewing historical rates and pricing strategies.

Daily duties include diligently maintaining good progress to meet tender deadlines by timeous issue of subcontractor and supplier enquiries and responses as listed below.

To act, and to ensure all those within your control act, professionally to protect and maintain the good standing of the Company within the industry and its Clients.

DUTIES - The fundamental tasks of the job are:

  • General
  • To carry out a highlevel tender review of tender documentation and prepare a summary report on whether or not this is a project which the company should bid for.
  • To review contract tender information and identify incomplete elements and request details from the client through a TQ process.
  • To establish bid deliverables and agree win strategies with Management Team as well as utilising Senior Management experience for the tender.
  • Establish whether the tender requires a bill of quantities or a takeoff and organise appointing a PQS to carry this out timeously should we not be able to carry this out inhouse.
  • To compile a tender enquiry letter to subcontractors which must include all ITT, preamble, drawings and specifications as detailed within the tender pack.
  • To ensure tendering contractors are made aware of programme durations and L&A damages
  • To compile a company assumptions list document for issue to the client to ensure our bid is properly qualified. (Main Contract Only)
  • To compile a risk register that reflects our bid strategy and price accordingly
  • To compile a company T&C document for issue to the client to ensure our bid is properly qualified. (Concrete/Civil works Only)
  • In the instance of main contracting mid tender review meetings will be implemented by the Estimator
  • Estimator to compile completed bid and issue to Managing Director for sign off (Concrete/Civil works Only)
  • Estimator to compile completed bid tender finalisation meeting 48 hours in advance of tender return date to discuss the content of our bid and agree final overheads and profit (Main Contracts)
  • Estimator must submit on the due date Concrete/Main Contracting bids on completion of sign off.
  • Estimators to carry out daily/weekly review on tender submissions to identify status and enter into negotiations to secure the project.
  • Liaise with Estimating Team regarding business improvements/systems, current market rates and implement change as required.
  • Ensure administration of databases are maintained.
  • Attend weekly estimating meetings and update all as required.
Safety

  • To liaise with Operations Teams to ensure that all safety and environmental matters have been considered within our bid.
Supply Chain

  • Ensure supply chain members are financially viable and have the adequate resources and experience to fulfil the work scope obligations.
  • Ensure the appropriate labour only/subcontractors are selected for the tender process and review and agree with Operations Director.
  • Ensure that subcontractors provide adequate programmes to allow the PM to manage their works.
  • To ensure selfdelivery labour, plant and materials are ordered timeously to the purchasing department.
Reporting

  • Provide weekly general update to Senior Management
  • Ensure adequate records are kept of relevant matters.
  • Provider analysis reports on subcontractors
  • Maintain win rate ratios and feedback to Senior Management
Business Development

  • Assist in securing opportunities for nontraditional business such as negotiated contracts, design & build, partnering and frameworks. Continually seek new business opportunities and innovation.
  • To review Barbour ABI and others to identify new future tender opportunities and review other tender enquiries from Main Contractors to establish if the company can price directly.
  • Assist in monitoring regular Customer feedback on Construction performance to permit assessment of the Company's strengths and weaknesses.

Clients, Design Teams, Supply Chain and Statutory Bodies.
Remuneration

  • Salary £50,000£60,000 depending on experience
