Job objectives and responsibilities

Reporting to a Bid Director, the Bid Writer will work within a matrix bid team, to produce high-quality, compelling and persuasive written content for bids, proposals, tenders and other work-winning submissions.


Working within a high-performing bid team, you will deliver bidding excellence to help secure commercial and public sector opportunities across a broad range of projects and services, including (but not limited to) Facilities Management, Security, Care & Custody, Defence and Technical Services.


This role requires close working and leadership of other bid writers, team members, and other key stakeholders to develop winning bids, tenders and proposals.

Main duties

  • To provide high quality bid writing services to bids of various size, scale and complexity on either an individual or a portfolio basis
  • To support the bid team in the creation of storyboards and to ensure that these are adhered to throughout the writing process
  • To work proactively with key stakeholders in the bid process (e.g., Sales, Business Development, Operations, Legal, Commercial, Pricing) to develop highquality written proposals informed by an integrated approach across all bids
  • To gather and extract information from key technical experts and develop responses that deliver to the agreed storyboards, writing plans, tone and style
  • To create quality responses which are wellwritten, accurate, concise, and visually engaging and which effectively convey the required message, respond to customer requirements (including adherence to word counts, presentational requirements, and evaluation criteria requirements) and score well
  • To understand and capture subtleties and nuances within our solutions and present features, benefits added value and social value clearly and in line with the clients' marking criteria
  • Ensure win themes, USPs, sales messages and case studies are incorporated in line with our Win Strategy, storyboards and writing plans
  • To manage the language quality of bids to ensure consistent language, tone of voice and terminology throughout a response or portfolio of responses
  • To support the management of bid collateral and information sharing across the bid team
  • Where external contractor Bid Writers are allocated to a bid team, to ensure smooth integration into the bid team and provide ongoing guidance and coaching
  • To support the monitoring and improvement of the quality of bid submissions ensuring high standards of attention to detail
  • To prepare for, attend and contribute to Bid Kick Off workshops, regular bid progress meetings
  • To support bid team with mandatory reviews such as storyboard reviews, written submission reviews, interim solution reviews and governance reviews
  • Managing bid writing requirements throughout the bid lifecycle, through the ongoing maintenance and review of the bid response planner
  • Management of the full tender writing process, including content planning, drafting, review and production, working to the bid programme
  • Ensuring a consistent quality of approach is applied across all bids and that the agreed bid strategy is reflected in the written content produced
  • Consistently adhering to formal bid governance processes and protocols
  • Developing and sharing innovations that enhance the quality and/or efficiency of the bid writing functions
  • Collating and analysing feedback from clients and key stakeholders to share learnings with the entire bid team and drive continuous improvement.
What we are looking for

  • At least 2 years' proven experience in a bid writing role, working as part of a successful bid team (essential)
  • A working knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of bid writing best practice, bid processes and methodologies (essential)
  • A proven track record of successfully bidding to win contracts and opportunities (essential)
  • An ability to work with senior stakeholders where required, to drive the design of clientfocussed solutions that meet client requirements (essential)
  • Strong written English language skills (essential)
  • Excellent attention to detail (essential)
  • Ability to work well under pressure and in a deadlinedriven environment (essential)
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills (essential)
  • Excellent communication and skills (essential)
  • Proficient MS Office skills (essential)
  • Good time management and prioritisation skills (desirable)
  • Certified to APMP Foundation level or above (desirable).
  • Experience of bidding to both public and commercial sectors (desirable)
  • Experience of bidding in at least one of the following: Facilities Management, Security, Care & Custody, Defence and Technical Services (desirable)
