Job description

OVERVIEW
This is a brand-new role for our global anaesthesia organisation.

You will report directly to our CEO and be responsible for ensuring that our 134 member societies receive the highest quality of service and support, regardless of where in the world they are based and the size of their individual memberships.***As Membership Officer, you will develop and implement a new membership engagement strategy for the WFSA.

This will involve managing projects and project activities in support of our member societies and regional sections, such as scholarships and our mentorship programme.

This is an absolutely critical role for us in the run-up to the next World Congress of Anaesthesiologists being held in Singapore in March 2024 which will involve all our member societies.

Some international travel will be required for this position.

We offer hybrid working (our office is located in Westminster), excellent benefits and leave allowances (including your birthday off), and a supportive and friendly team.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Membership engagement:

  • Act as organisationwide focal point for all member societies and regional sections;
  • Work with the finance team to invoice member societies for payments of dues on an annual basis;
  • Liaise with the WFSA Secretary and report to the Board around the status of member societies;
  • Develop and deliver an annual engagement plan for member societies globally. This may include elements such as webinars and other informational offerings, supporting member societies' conferences and events, working with member societies in advance of our biennial global congresses to support attendance at these etc.;
  • Engage with potential new member societies, by supporting nascent anaesthesiology societies with development and enrolment into the WFSA family;
  • Maintain the Register of Member Societies (membership database, including whether member societies are in good standing). Ensure member society details are kept updated on the WFSA website.

Mentorships:

This is a new initiative and specific tasks will continue to evolve as the programme develops.

However, the work will likely include:

  • Develop (with the comms team) and deliver promotion and outreach for the programme to member societies;
  • As the Programme expands, work with the Head of Programmes and Partnerships Manager to include Mentorship in larger proposals in order to secure funding for the Programme.

Fundraising in support of Member Societies:

  • Identify new funding opportunities through desk-based research;
  • Participate in meetings with donor organisations (both new donors and existing donors) including minuting of meetings;
  • Support the development of narrative concept notes, budgets and proposals for submission to donors, as well as internal monthly reports;
  • Produce proposal development timelines, and obtain consensus for these, including with member societies and other partners involved in the submission;
  • Assume responsibility for interactions with specific donors, and pursue actions as agreed to develop and foster relationships with these.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We'd love to find someone who is fluent in Spanish and French, in addition to English, as many of our member societies prefers to communicate in these languages.

Experience working in or with another membership organisation is a definite plus, but if you have great customer service skills and a can-do attitude, that is also important.

If you're successful, this position will give you a great opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills, and gain experience in communicating and advocating for global health within a small but committed team that serves a global cohort of skilled volunteers.

You will definitely be encouraged to use your own initiative and develop your own ideas.
