We are looking to appoint a Domestic Assistant to join our team.

Working as part of a small team, as one of our Domestic Assistants you'll undertake a wide range of domestic duties across the College.

This will include the preparation of bedrooms for our students staying with us, cleaning of communal area and facilities to a high standard to help keep our buildings and facilities to a high standard, and also helping with laundry.


To be considered for this role you must have experience of delivering cleaning services within a commercial setting and have successfully completed basic health and safety training including COSHH.

You'll also have good communication skills and be experienced at working both independently and as part of a team.


The right person will be someone who enjoys working at a fast pace with a variety of different tasks, who is self-managed with a strong work ethic, who has a positive outlook and a 'can do' attitude and who is a completer/finisher.


Main responsabilities:


  • Preparation of bedrooms to a high standard for students and overnight visitors including replenishing coffee/tea items as and when required
  • Cleaning of touchpoints in all areas in line with social distancing measures
  • Twice weekly clean longcourse students' rooms
  • Cleaning of public toilets
  • Cleaning of offices and teaching rooms
  • Cleaning of reception area
  • Cleaning of common rooms
  • Cleaning of corridors and staircases
  • Preparing laundry for collection
  • Washing of towels and quilt covers using commercial equipment
  • Cleaning of laundry room
  • Cleaning of recreation room
  • Emptying of recycling bins
  • Reporting any maintenance issues directly to the maintenance department
  • To help carry out planned deep cleaning as required
  • Assisting as required with Fircroft events
  • To undertake training as required by Fircroft College
  • Any other duties reasonably requested and falling within the remit of the post as may be required


Fircroft is a residential college occupying a former Cadbury family home, set in six acres of beautiful grounds in Selly Oak, Birmingham.

We were originally founded to provide educational opportunities for some of the most disadvantaged and excluded members of society.
