Engineering Assistant - Boiler (night shift)


We have an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Assistant to join us at our world-class printing site, Standfast & Barracks, based in Lancaster (part of the icon Sanderson Design Group plc).

As Engineering Assistant, you will be responsible for the sites boilers, ensuring the steam supply to the Company's production units is uninterrupted and is the correct quality (pressure & moisture) so that the Company can supply customers with a quality product on time to the right cost.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure steam is supplied to the production units uninterrupted and to a quality that is required
  • All operation of the steam raising equipment is carried out in accordance with the HSE
  • PM schedules
  • To be fully conversant and trained in all the requirements for raising steam, including technical data collection and interpretation
  • Oversee and maintain the operation and service of the company's water softening plant
  • Recycle waste fabric, cardboard, and plastic: able to operate the recycling machines, removal of bales from the recycling machines, collection and return of waste cloth stillages from the factory
  • Ensure all safe working practices are carried out in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and Company's safety rules:
  • Always work in accordance with the site Lock Out Procedure for plant isolation, including Permits to Work, when required
  • Always work in accordance with the safe working practices when using ladders, scaffolding, portable staging and lifting equipment
  • Ensure all appliances used have certification required for portable appliances and for work carried out
  • Always ensure any areas within your control are maintained in a clean and tidy manner:
  • All redundant equipment and parts not used within the last 2 years to be continually assessed whether required or not
  • Workshop to be maintained to a high level of housekeeping with all materials and equipment neatly stored
  • Measurement of energy usage in the plant on a regular basis:
  • Gas and steam usage for the boiler is recorded each week and information passed to the Mechanical Supervisor
  • Any adverse trends are reported promptly and be part of the team to determine the cause
  • To hold the BOAS Cert IBO (Certified Industrial Boiler Operator) and be fully conversant and trained in all the requirements for raising steam, including technical data collection and interpretation
  • Recycle machinery
  • Forklift truck operation

Measures of Success

  • The safe and efficient running of the boilers (by proactive maintenance to ensure there is no excess usage of gas and downtime). No machine down time due to lack of steam pressure.

Skills & Experience

  • Ideally BOAS Cert.
IBO (Certified Industrial Boiler Operator) if this is not held, training will be provided (as it is a requirement to hold this qualification)

  • Able to accurately record & report information
  • A positive attitude & 'can do' approach
  • Previous experience of working in a manufacturing environment (desirable)
