We are a co-educational day school for 11-16-year-olds.

Wholistic Learning, International Outlook, Sustainable Practice and Creative Innovations. As a small secondary school we attract students who would struggle in a large mainstream secondary school. We have a significant number of students with ASD and high anxiety who need additional support.


About the role

Key details:
-
Hours: Monday to Friday, between 8.40am and 4.15pm, hours may vary on a weekly basis with a minimum of 20 working hours per week.

Wage: £6.40 per hour

Location: Horton Road, Gloucester, GL1 3PR (Some travel between campuses and off-site activities may be necessary but own transport is not required for this)

Overview of the role:
The role is either to support an individual child or a small group of children. Some of whom will need support to catch up, others will have specific learning difficulties or have autism. You will work within and outside the classroom.

The teaching assistant should support the teacher to deliver learning and pastoral support to members of the class and assist in supporting collaborative working between students to promote social interaction.


Key responsibilities:

  • The TA should know the learning needs of all students
  • Work with the teacher to develop differentiated tasks
  • Supervise the activities of students to ensure their safety and to support their physical and emotional development.
  • The TA should be aware of the learning outcomes and ready to talk them through with the students
  • On occasion, it may be necessary for the TA to write/type a student's dictations if there are issues with transferring thoughts into writing.

Additional Duties:

  • Planning goals and rewards for students to work towards.
  • At break and lunch, the TA may be expected to sit and eat with student(s) in a comfortable setting, either in the main dining room or away from larger crowds of students. This is a prime opportunity to build social relationships and the TA should support the student to express themselves appropriately.
  • On occasion it may be appropriate to create opportunities for the student to make relationships with other students and staff, helping to guide conversations when needed.
  • The TA may be asked to organise a schedule for homework/prep work, to break work into manageable chunks.

Apprenticeship Summary:

  • You will work towards your Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification across a total duration of 18 months
  • All online/remote learning, no classroom or college day release
  • An allocated tutor will support you throughout the apprenticeship

Qualifications Required:

  • GCSE or equivalent English (Grade 4) essential
  • GCSE or equivalent Maths (Grade 4) essential

During this teaching assistant apprenticeship you will promote self-belief, social inclusion and high self-esteem which will play an integral part to pupils' wellbeing.

You will become an essential part in the learning environment for the classroom teacher and pupils. Working to ensure pupils thrive in a positive, nurturing and safe environment. It is an active role supporting the learner to access the curriculum and expand their knowledge. TAs play a crucial role in supporting teachers and pupils. Your work can have a significant impact on the children's learning experiences, helping them to succeed academically and personally.
