Experience of providing support in a residential setting is essential.
Shift work will be required, as well as weekend work.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Deputy Manager, with the Registered Manager will be responsible for Orient Street Short Breaks Respite Unit, incorporating:
(1) 5 beds for adults (Registered with the Care Quality Commission); and
(2) 5 beds for Children (Registered with Ofsted)

The post holder will support the registered manager in the aims and objectives of the service and Southwark council.

Supporting people to developtheir skills and independence, to make friends and have a positive and enjoyable stay and provide support to people who need emergency placements or who are experiencing crises in their lives.

To support the team to deliver a high standard of support, which is evidenced based and outcome focused for both the people we support and their families, facilitating maximum independence, dignity, choice and control, through person centred planning and support.

To ensure that all work undertaken is in line with best practice, regulatory standards, the services and Southwark's values and policies and procedures

Acting as a leader, role model and co-ordinator of shifts and fully deputising for the Registered Home Manager as required.


PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

Responsibilities:


  • To deputise for the registered manager as required and support them in ensuring that all regulatory standards are up held and that the service and its staff work in line with Southwark's policies and procedures, values and strategic aims, the services statementof purpose, business plan and values and each individual is supported in line with their support plans
  • To deputise for the manager when required with internal Southwark meetings and procedures.
  • When required effectively lead, coordinate and manage care and ancillary staff during a shift in providing care and support which responds flexibly to the needs of the client and the service.
  • To take responsibility for the mentoring and support of all staff and the supervision of a designated group of staff which will include team leads.
  • Provide necessary information, instruction, supervision and guidance to staff in respect of maintaining service policies, procedures and best practice.
  • To work with managers in managing and monitoring individual staff performance and work plans. To assist with the setting of targets and to completing appraisals and other associated staff administration duties such as ESS.
  • To work with the Manager to ensure the smooth running of the service and to ensure that appropriate staffing numbers are met on each shift.
  • To ensure that a person centred approach is adopted to meet the identified needs of the individual in accordance with individual care plans.
  • When required to provide personal care such as supporting people to wash, bathe, dress, with their toileting needs or supporting them to eat, in an empowering and respectful way and undertake manual handling duties as required in accordance with individualcare plans.
  • To assist, when required, with domestic duties including cleaning, preparation of meals, kitchen duties and general home management.
  • To deal with and record medication as required accordance with Southwark's policy in relation to the safe storage, handling and recording of medicines and treatments.
  • To comply with all health and safety and recording requirements as per service needs and as directed by senior staff. To be responsible for the safety and wellbeing of the clients when on duty.
  • To act as a key worker to clients as directed by senior staff, to liaise and maintain communication with carers, and other professionals within the Department and with external agencies.
  • To participate in client care planning, implementing activities, goal setting and reviews.
  • To maintain accurate and timely records (paper and electronic) to support clients' wellbeing and ensure clear handover and communication with colleagues and managers.
  • To undertake outreach work as required.
  • To attend meetings, supervisions, training courses and follow-up refresher courses as required.
  • To undertake on call duties on a rota with the registered manager
  • To undertake any other duties commensurate with the level and grade of the post as may be requested from time to time.
