We are launching our 2023 Trainee Team Manager Programme and are looking for a diverse range of people to join us.

This programme will last 2 years and opportunities are available across our Scottish Operations and Transmission directorates. Our people areat the heart of SGN and our Team Managers are critical to our success, so it's important we find the right people

  • Please note this role does not require any industry experience._

The Role
You will be managing SGN field team leaders, craftsmen & external contractors across a range of projects, which may involve;

  • Managing gas emergency, mains replacement and new connections activities
  • Participating as an effective member of an incident management team
  • Ensuring the effective operation and maintenance of gas distribution assets
  • Supporting the team in the efficient delivery of planned and reactive maintenance activities
  • Overseeing assigned work programmes from initiation through to programme closure
  • Ensuring required controls are in place to make sure the team are set to work safely
  • Dealing with hazards and risks identified by others, delivering an efficient plan to remedy

  • Experience of managing people; this could come from a wide range of industries such as retail and other customerfocused areas
  • The ability to inspire and get the best out of their team
  • Costconscious, able to work within a budget
  • Able to think on your feet whilst always being safety aware.
  • Selfmotivated, with good attention to detail and a proactive work ethic and have excellent numerical and analytical skills to be able to problem solve
  • Interested in developing your career within the gas network industry
  • Able to commit to 2 years of training and development
  • A full and valid driving licence is essential


As part of your learning journey we will provide you with the skills, knowledge and behaviours to work as part of our highly skilled field based teams, carrying out safety-critical repairs and maintenance on SGN's gas network, which safely delivers gas to5.9 million homes and businesses across Scotland and the south of England.


You will be supported by highly skilled engineers and colleagues, who will provide opportunity for you to develop your competencies in real work situations, supplementing your ongoing learning through our tailored development programme.

Over the course ofthe programme you may be required to attend a number of training venues, which may be a distance away from your home.

When you are required to stay away from home, we will arrange travel and accommodation. Flexibility is essential in this role, both in termsof hours of work and on call /stand by responsibilities.


You will also receive a bonus on successful completion of the programme if you are deemed competent in the role.
