We have an exciting opportunity to join our policy team.

What are we looking for?

We are seeking a Policy Advisor to join our team, to help develop expert advice on how to build, govern and support the infrastructures and technologies that will take us into the future.

Working across projects relating to AI and autonomy; data and digital; smart and connected infrastructure - this role is all about ensuring that we build and maintain engineered systems that support a sustainable society and an inclusive economy.

This role is part of the growing Engineering Policy Team at the Royal Academy of Engineering.

The Academy and the National Engineering Policy Centre - a partnership of 42 professional engineering organisations led by the Academy - have a central role in bringing these approaches to the major policy challenges of our time.

The work of the Academy's Engineering Policy Team involves bringing engineering thinking and systems approaches to the heart of government, through bringing policymakers and engineers together to work through wicked problems; and by providing evidence and expertise-informed advice on how we can reach net zero; build greater resilience to crises; improve public health and make the best and safest use of digital, deep and emerging technologies.

All of the work of the Academy and the NEPC contributes to the Academy's strategic priorities of building a sustainable society and an inclusive economy.

A sustainable society is one in which development meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

In an inclusive economy, the fruits of prosperity are shared across all regions and groups in society, with engineering serving as an enabler of improvements to people's lives.

The work of the Engineering Policy team is central to reaching these ends. This is why we are growing our team and extending our work, and we hope that you will join us

This role will be in our new Digital and Physical Infrastructures team, one of three thematic engineering policy teams alongside Climate and Sustainability and Health and Resilience; and will involve collaboration with teams working on Research and Innovation, and Education and Skills Policy.
