This is an exciting opportunity to join our robust new start-up firm with potential to learn and grow quickly within the team.

We are looking for a Senior Power System Consultant to join us with an excellent technical background in electrical engineering, as well as experience in power systems modelling.

The Consultant will be responsible for performing technical design and compliance assessment studies.


Overall work description


The work will involve performing electrical power system studies in a specialist power system software (such as IPSA and DigSilent PowerFactory) to enable projects such as solar farms, batteries, wind farms, synchronous generators etc to connect with the electrical network.

The work also involves automating parts of electrical studies using Python programming language and Excel which will work directly with the power system software.

The work will also involve working with clients such as distribution and transmission companies, power project developers, ICPs and EPCs.


Essentials

  • Technical Knowledge and Experience_
  • Bachelors degree in electrical engineering, along with MSc or PhD in power systems
  • At least 4 years' experience in performing power system studies
  • High proficiency in load flow and fault level studies and has worked with LV (0.4kV and 11kV), MV (33kV and 66kV) and HV (132kV, 275V) networks
  • Has performed modelling in IPSA or DigSilent PowerFactory and has high level of competence in either or both of these software
  • Can work without much supervision, can manage projects and interact with the client mostly independently
  • Understands well the dynamic stability concepts including role of equipment such as AVR, PSS, frequency response and voltage control and has modelled synchronous machines and/or full converter machines (wind turbines, solar inverters and battery inverters), in IPSA or DigSilent PowerFactory
  • Has performed stability studies such as faultride through, dynamic voltage control and frequency response modelling in IPSA and/or DigSilent
  • Can perform power quality and harmonics G5/5 assessment
  • Able to prepare, review and sign off comprehensive technical reports
  • Understands technical standards used in the UK and have worked with most of them in the past, these include The Grid Code, EREC G99, EREC P28, and EREC G5/
  • Has knowledge of programming in Python, intermediate level at least
  • Able to read and understand singleline diagrams and component technical specifications from datasheets
  • Have a keen interest in power engineering and a desire to work in the field of electrical power systems
  • Has an excellent knowledge in using Microsoft Excel
  • Contribute towards writing and submission of high quality proposals to both existing and new clients
  • Other essentials_
  • Has the visa or right to work in the UK
  • Excellent in speaking, reading and writing in English
  • Willing to learn on the job, selfmotivated and enthusiastic
  • Organised and selfmotivated individual who can work with client deadlines
  • Able to understand and balance priorities based on their importance
  • A friendly and approachable individual, who can work well in a team or on their own initiative

Bonus points

  • Able to link Python with IPSA and/or DigSilent for studies automation
  • Familiarity with protection coordination and lightning risk assessment
  • Familiar with distribution and transmission network operation
  • Able to use PSCAD proficiently
  • Knowledge of VBA
  • Would be willing to share power systems knowledge in the form of trainings
