Are you a leader of a design team in games who loves to inspire others and work creatively with a talented team?


Jagex are looking for a talented Lead Designer who will be a hands-on leader of a team of designers working on an unannounced open-world, survival craft title in development on Unreal Engine - Reporting to the Creative Director, you will have a huge impact on this exciting new game and the team working to make their vision a reality.


What you'll be doing:


  • Own and provide design strategy for major game features or specific design craft disciplines
  • Coordinate and review work of contributing designers, ensuring support of the design vision alongside the Design Director
  • Be the keeper of design quality, upholding a common standard across in area of ownership
  • Lead by example and help set the standard for quality work, and a positive creative culture
  • Provide mentorship to more junior designers and foster the career development of reports
  • Work with other team leads to foster effective communication across art, design, engineering, audio, and QA.
  • Work with the Production and Directors to establish measurable development phases with specified goals for each major area of design
  • Help communicate design strategy to all team members, raising both design and interpersonal issues upwards to the directors
  • Set up mechanisms to maintain consistent quality and provide feedback and critique
  • Ensure the timely and successful delivery of individual tasks and goals
  • Responsible for designing and taking implementation ownership of gameplay mechanics and system design development.
  • Responsible for creating and updating design documentation.

What we're looking for:


  • Proven experience working as a leader/mentor of designers in the games industry.
  • Demonstrable experience of facilitating effective crossfunctional communication between multiple different departments.
  • Established knowledge and proficiency with visual scripting tools in a game engine (Unreal preferred)
  • Experience communicating design strategy and escalating challenges and potential solutions where necessary.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Action-Survival games, RPG Games or similar.
  • A clear passion and enthusiasm for games and the industry.
