Mott MacDonald Bentley (MMB) is working with Severn Trent Water to deliver a range of water and wastewater treatment projects as part of their frameworks in AMP7 and beyond.

We are looking for a senior / principal ecologist to join our ever-growing environmental team.

As part of this role, you will:

  • Collaborate with the project teams throughout the design stage, identifying risks and survey needs to ensure ecological compliance.
  • Provide technical support to construction teams.
  • Assist in ecology survey work / ECoW roles as and when required.
  • Manage a programme of ecological surveys and mitigation across multiple frameworks to ensure that projects are delivered within budget and on time.
  • Write ecological technical reports, including, but not limited to Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, Biodiversity Net Gain calculations, Biodiversity Enhancement Strategies, Ecological Impact Assessments and Habitat Regulation Assessments.
  • Be a leader in Biodiversity Net Gain and take an active role in delivering business improvement strategies.
  • Checking of ecological technical reports as above.
  • Keep up to date with ecological legislation, strategies and standards, and support project teams with ecology licencing and compliance.
  • Full member of CIEEM, a Chartered Environmentalist/Ecologist or working towards chartership.
  • A holder of protected species licenses would be preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of wildlife legislation including planning processes and/or EIA/HRA assessments.
  • Experience of people management preferred.
  • Experience of working with contractors highly desirable.
  • Willingness to encourage innovation and digital services.
  • Willingness to travel throughout the UK.

This role is employed by Mott MacDonald but will involve working across the joint venture business, both with Mott MacDonald and JN Bentley colleagues.
