Position:


Reporting to the Depot Manager, the post holder will play a key role in the success of the National Distribution Centre.

Working in a fast-paced complex environment, the post holder will supervise a team of yard operatives & fettlers and assist with managing a team of drivers, ensuring all workload and deadlines are achieved consistently.

Occasional days away may be required to attend meetings and further training at our Head Office in Swadlincote, South Derbyshire or other depots around the country.


The post holder will ensure company targets are met or exceeded, whilst maintaining the depot to company standards at all times.

This is a hands on role, based in the yard/warehouse, with some office elements. It will be demanding as well as rewarding and will therefore require flexibility, drive and initiative.


Please note this is a physically demanding role that requires you to be on your feet most of the day and will include manual handling of heavy products throughout the day.


Requirements:


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Devise and implement robust processes in line with depot needs and in conjunction with the Depot Manager
  • Evaluate performance and quality and to plan improvements
  • Supervising unloading and quality checking of deliveries.
  • Supervising loading of customer, supplier & company vehicles.
  • Quality checking all products, fettled or unfettled to ensure they are suitable for either direct delivery to customers or to PPC.
  • Allocate and manage colleague resources according to changing of the business needs
  • Delegate and supervise daily tasks and be accountable for any issues
  • Use of IT systems to manage stock levels, delivery times and transport costs
  • Use of associated information to coordinate and control the order cycle
  • Liaising with the Head Office to ensure sufficient stock levels are maintained.

  • Carry out HR processes
  • Ensuring your warehouse/yard is tidy at all times
  • Ensuring a safe working environment is maintained.

  • Ensuring daily FLT checks are being completed and defects reported.
  • Continually try to improve and develop business performance within the constraints of legislation, fuel costs and rising environmental pressures

Skills, Qualification, Experience and Competencies

FLT License essential:

Driving License essential (Max 6 Points):


  • CPC card/Class 1/Class 2 License advantageous:
  • Good time management skills
  • Ability to solve problems, make decisions, and offer creative solutions
  • Commercial awareness and numeracy skills
  • Ability to manage changes
  • Sound organisational and planning skills with a handson approach
  • Able to be flexible and multitask
  • Experience and understanding of managing HR issues and e.g., performance, return to work meetings, etc
  • Computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Packages
  • Excellent care and attention to detail
  • Able to remain calm in a fast paced, highpressured environment.
  • Selfmotivated, with the ability to demonstrate initiative and work independently.
  • Good communication skills
  • Able to motivate a team to achieve targets, lead a team to success, as well as working as part of a team.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to plan, organise and prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
  • Enthusiastic, reliable with a positive attitude.
  • SAP experience would be advantageous
  • Willingness to learn and adapt
  • Planning vehicle/driver routes
  • Solving any driver/delivery issues
  • Monitoring driver routes and checking they are completing their Detracks correctly
  • Ensuring daily vehicle checks are being completed and defects reported.
  • Daily driver debriefs

Salary:
£14.50 per hour


Hours:45 hours per week between between the hours of 6am - 8pm. Monday to Friday.
