Your new role
We are seeking an ambitious Principal Transport Planner to lead and grow our consultancy in the Northern Ireland.

The person appointed will lead our specialist regional team enabling delivery of secured major and local highways transport infrastructure projects, for example transport business cases for regional funding opportunities in Northern Ireland, in particular Active Travel schemes.

Our ambitions are not confined to the sectors we currently work in.

There will be important opportunities to influence the way the business develops, which will be encouraged by Amey's new owner, who see consultancy as a route to rapid growth.

With access to Amey's digital expertise and the newly acquired business Citi Logik, who specialise in obtaining people moving information from mobile network data, the lead will have the opportunity to bring new skills and information into the sector.


Analytics and Advisory Services currently enjoys strong fee generation of approximately £30M/pa, mainly from working in partnership with key clients such as National Highways, local authority clients, Heathrow Airport, Network Rail, Train Operating Companies and the wider Amey, with the ambition to double revenues over the next 3-5 years.

The growth of our transport planning consultancy, part of Amey's offering in the digital transportation arena, supports our clients secure funding for critical transport investments and develop solutions to their complex transport problems and is central to the overall growth plans and our offering to our clients.


Reporting to the director of our Transport Planning Consultancy, the Principal Transport Planner will take day-to-day responsibility for shaping, developing, and running our midlands business and be a key part of growing our Consultancy.

They will be responsible for successful delivery of projects and growth of the business internally and externally; the former being facilitated by highly collaborative behaviour.


We are seeking an ambitious individual who has an extensive track record in transport planning, blended with some experience in developing and growing a business.

They will have a regional remit for Amey Consulting and will be encouraged to shape the business based on their experience, working closely with their peers in the Consulting business.

They will be encouraged to work closely with the leadership of the A&A team with the opportunity to help shape and lead the overall A&A business.


The standard hours of work are
40 hours per week

You will be responsible for

  • Providing consultancy advisory services to clients on Transport Planning.
  • Managing and developing teams within the Transport Planning business.
  • Supporting contracts and projects across the sector.
  • Identifying project resource requirements and allocating tasks to project teams to achieve targets and project objectives.
  • Acting as a business leader, providing advice, guidance and supervision as appropriate to an internal technical team, clients and suppliers.

We want to hear from you if you have / are

  • Experienced transport planning practitioner operating in the infrastructure sector having delivered projects that include transport and traffic modelling, transport scheme appraisal, route management strategies, improving walking and cycling routes, improving public transport routes, transport business case development and scrutiny
  • Professional Membership with a relevant body
  • Capable of acting as technical lead or technical daytoday main contact for a project, for instance, evaluating transport planning problems, preparing detailed methodologies, researching/a
